GX1 rules for a day:
The super GX1 deal is now over but at midnight (Berlin time) I toke this screenshot from the Amazon overall digital camera rankings (Click here to see the current rank). I don’t recall ever seeing a Micro Four Thirds camera on top of this ranking. Panasonic and Olympus should take notice of it. Those deals really help to extend the m43 user basis. We need more of those actions!

E-M5 in Stock:

As you can see from the screenshot on top the Silver kit will finally ship on July 15th at Amazon US (Click here to read the note and preorder). That’s after tomorrow!

And now to an even more important news. I was really wondering why DxOmark still didn’t had post the full E-M5 sensor review. Via dpreview forum post (found via Lepidi) we got an intriguing answer. Axel from DxOmark said that: “the lab is working on it but noticed some surprising measures and is analyzing the root cause.”

Either the results are terrible good or either they are terribly bad! Can’t wait to see the review of the first Sony m43 sensor!

It’s already time for a new review post on 43rumors:

DSLRmagazine (Tranlsation here) just posted the full Olympus 75mm lens review. As you see from the charts posted on the website the lens provides an excellent performance in every aspect. The reviewer writes that the lens has indeed the fastest AF on the market. And while the lens has a very tele focal length he writes that it’s “ideal for “stolen” portraits and street shots from a distance, more discreet and the focal inadevertido standard documentary.” Bye bye privacy :)

As noted by other before the only real flaw of the lens is that the hood is not included. For 900 Euro Dollar we would have liked to see it in our box fro free.

Something else….Canon goes APS-C with the new mirrorles system.

As you remember Canon is using a Four Thirds sized(!) sensor on the Canon G1X (here at Amazon) which is a tiny bit larger than our Micro Four Thirds sensor. Consequently there were many rumors supporting the idea that the new mirrorless system from Canon may use that sensor. According to my trusted sources this may not be true. They will almost certainly opt for a classic APS-C sensor. Whether this is good or bad news for us I can’t judge now. Certainly it will be a challenge for Canon (like it is for Sony) to create compact lenses. Here lies the advantage of the m43 system.

(UPDATED) Olympus releases the E-M5 firmware update!

Today Olympus announces the release of new firmware for the OM-D E-M5 which offers the following improvements:
1) Improved sleep recovery operation
2) AF target indication when using C-AF+TR while shooting sequential images using Sequential L setting
3) Added function to automatically move focus to the following zoom positions when underwater macro mode or underwater wide mode is selected. (Only when M. ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-50 mm F3.5-6.3 EZ is attached)
-Underwater wide mode: Wide setting
-Underwater macro mode: Telephoto setting

Additionally, there is an Olympus Viewer 2 application update for both Windows and Mac that delivers the following:
1) Added the function to edit movies taken by the camera (mov, mp4)
2) Added the function to upload images to “My Photos” on (ib on the net). ib on the net is available in Japan and the U.S.A — http://www.ibonthenet.com/ns/service/serviceOutline

Here are the updates:
>> Firmware Version 1.2 for the OM-D E-M5
>> Firmware Version 1.4 for Olympus Viewer 2 Software

There are two options for updating the firmware:
1) Simply launch the included Olympus camera software and connect the camera via USB cable to an internet connected computer. Choose the Update function from the Camera menu in the software to apply available updates for camera bodies, lenses and accessories.
2) Download the software updater from the following link:
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_downloads_updater.asp and follow the installer instructions.

With each method, users can choose to display information related to what the update will apply, prior to performing the update.
The ability to update the firmware of Olympus digital camera components, bodies, lenses, accessories, and take advantage of some of the latest technologies is one of the key advantages of Olympus’ 100% digital design.
