The current [shoplink 30485]GF5[/shoplink]

A trusted and a new source shared a news about the new GF camera. The miniaturization war is definitely over and the new GF will be bigger and have a “more high quality” feeling over the previous [shoplink 30485]GF5 model[/shoplink]. As I told you before the camera is going to be announced in early April. So like they did with the GH3 Panasonic is now going the opposite direction than they did in the past. Bigger is Better is the new slogan :)

That said the current GF5 is a bargain compared to the new GF camera (that will be priced at $599). In UK you can get the GF5 with X lens for 290 Euro(!) at [shoplink 37420 ebay]Wilkinsoncamera UK (Click here)[/shoplink]. Too bad they do ship in UK only :(

In US you can grab it for $399 on [shoplink 37424 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

12-35mm X lens gets DxOmarked!

Share

The 12-35mm X lens just got DxOmarked (Click here to read the test). And they write: “The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm f2.8 ASPH Power O.I.S is the best lens of it’s type by quite a long way, but at a price that would buy better equipment if you are not wedded to the Micro 4:3 system.

The 12-35mm X zoom beats the rest of the MFT lenses and comes very close to the Olympus 12mm and 45mm prime lens performance. Now we have to see if the upcoming new Olympus f/2.8 zoom can match or even beat the Panasonic X performance!

DxOmark writes that the X zoom is expensive but you can find some deals in US and Europe:
Panacam sells the lens for $985 via Amazon US (Click here).
Five demo lenses are for sale in [shoplink 37404 ebay]Germany (Click here)[/shoplink] for 829 Euro.

What to expect in April (G7, GF7, E-P5, 12-40mm f/2.8 and maybe a GX2).

Share

A GX2 Mockup design made by 43rumors reader Mike (Thanks!).

Three announcements are expected to be made within early April and late April (or early May). Two from Panasonic and one from Olympus. Based on what we know so far we will get a GF6 and G7 with new 16 Megapixel sensor and usual improvements on AF, EVF resolution and so on. A new E-P5 with same E-M5 sensor and no integrated viewfinder, a new f/2.8 zoom form Olympus (maybe a weather sealed 12-40mm), a new Black 17mm f/1.8 and If we are really lucky maybe a GX2 with integrated viewfinder too.

So if the rumors are correct…

....what are the products you are considering to buy?

Double 17mm f/1.8 lens review…

Share
[shoplink 34914]

[/shoplink] We have two brand new review of the Olympus 17mm f/1.8 lens:

That is what Admiringlight writes: “Overall, I think the 17mm f/1.8 is an extremely good lens for environmental portraiture and street shooting, as its image qualities shine in these situations, and the autofocus is blazingly fast.  If you are after this lens as a high quality landscape lens, it’s probably not worth your money, as you can get similar quality from your kit zoom at 17mm stopped down.

And that is Digitalcamerareview’s conclusion: “The 17mm f/1.8 lens is the kind of lens I want to use almost all the time. I won’t butcher the fabulous Olympus OM-D E-M5 by gluing this lens to it, but Olympus is going to have to send some very tough repo men to wrestle this lens back from me.

So both like the lens and if the rumors I got are correct than we will get a Black version of this lens soon too!
