Olympus OM-D E-M1 – Firmware 4 (Focus Stacking, Focus Bracketing and more)

Mirrorlessons published a review of the new E-M1 firmware update 4.0. They write:

By updating the OM-D E-M1 with all the latest specifications, not only are they prolonging the life of their flagship camera but they are also instilling brand loyalty by taking care of their existing user base.
What’s more, with the introduction of Focus Bracketing/Focus Stacking, the camera has also become one of the most interesting products for macro photographers. It can easily become one of those features that you can’t live without if you like this genre of photography.
With all the amazing technology we’ve been seeing from Olympus over the past few years, I am very eager to see just what the second generation E-M1 will bring to the world of photography.

MS Optical Sonnetar tested on the Panasonic GH4

Share

Annie tested the rare [shoplink 56147 ebay]MS Optical Sonnetar lens[/shoplink] on the GH4:

“The lens at wide open is too soft for our taste, and has a lot of purple fringing. A bit hard to use at wide open, especially on the 4K. The footage was taken in 4K, and Youtube downsized to 1080!”

You can fin (if you are lucky) the lens for sale on [shoplink 56147 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

Fredrik:Here’s a yoga video I shot with a GH4, GH3, 25mm f/1.4 and 12-35 f/2.8. Thought it might be interesting :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z20RzyrZP3Q

Olympus 7-14mm lens tested at Photozone: “left a bit of a mixed impression”.

7-14mm

Photozone (Click here) tested the Olympus 7-14mm f/2.8 PRO lens and it writes that “left a bit of a mixed impression.”:

Actually prior of this test I took it on vacation but the results were a bit short of my expectation – primarily because of the field curvature issue at 7mm which I didn’t know about at the time. When keeping the field curvature in mind and act accordingly, you can certainly achieve very good results. The center quality is breathtaking whereas the outer image region has be handled with care when shooting below 10mm at least (pull the focus a bit). Image distortions aren’t relevant from a user perspective. That being said it is also obvious that the auto-correction comes at the price of a bit of softness – it is simply not lossless. Vignetting as well as lateral CAs are a lesser concern. Despite its immense front element it is also worth to emphasize that the M.Zuiko is surprisingly flare-resistant (relative to others in this class).
In terms of build quality, the Olympus is up there with the very best and it’s a joy to use in the real life. The noiseless and fast AF are something we got used to in the Olympus universe but it’s worth to mention nonetheless.

Panasonic MEGA O.I.S. vs. POWER O.I.S. for video shooting

Panasonic Lumix DMC-G7 – In-Depth Review And Reappraisal Of An Underestimated Camera (Soundimagesplus).
Cinema Cameras: What Filmmakers need to Know (Explora).

Miguel Ortiz:History (https://vimeo.com/141315301), how it was made, in this picture: https://flic.kr/p/vFcxTb

Jim Chang: Over the years, I have collected many anamorphic projection lenses for my own video projects and experiment. But I have always been puzzled by adapting anamorphic projection lens to my taking lenses, even though I tried every type of adapter that I can buy, but I am still not fully satisfied. So I developed the Rapido Anamorphic Lens Adapter. Please check it out at www.rapidotechnology.com

Basically, the adapter offers:
1. a better concentric alignment
2. a more stable connection
3. a repeatable alignment: use the marker on the side of the inner ring for quick alignment
4. a reusable and more flexible solution: for different anamorphic lenses, just find the customized step-down ring, and connect to your existing Rapido Anamorphic Adapter, and you are done. No need different, some time hard to find adapter, for each of your anamorphic lens
5. a simple and easy online instruction with illustrations, to show you how to adapt each anamorphic lens at: www.rapidotechnology.com
Even though I tried to include all the anamorphic lens that I can find, but I know there are still some are left out, please let me know if you have some anamorphic lens you like to adapt, I typically finish design/manufacturing in 2-3 weeks.

Hope you will like it. Thanks”
