7 months ago |Hopefully the E-PL5 will be in stock next week when I visit Hong Kong. I really want to try the Video tele-converter. Dunno why no-one else seems to be curious about this feature. Up to 4x zoom at full HD using a crop of the sensor. Looks like zooming can be done during filming, using the touch screen, and any part of the image can be zoomed, not just the centre.
I’m looking forward to using my 45/1.8 as a 180/2.8, and my 200/3.0 as an 800/3.0!

7 months ago |XZ-1 is still very good compact camera, for 200$ is realy cheap. Photos IQ won’t be worse then from PEN (old panasonic sensors) with slow kit-zoom. XZ-1 can do the same things like PEN series. It has IS, has ability to remote control of flashes, we can connect XZ1 with FL-36, FL-50, Metz’s flashes, special lights from Oly for macro. Very good camera, and now – very cheap.

7 months ago |Although the EPL5 is very good but I still prefer to wait & see what are next from Olympus & Pana . If the review is true , the EPL5 is having a great sensor than 5N , this definitely deserve big praise in m4/3 arena . The next incoming models will be even greater .
As for Pana , the very highend camera remain mysterious & GX2 if coming , only minor improvement over it’s predecessor I predict , not worth to upgrade at all .

For 200 Euro, I would immediatly recommend it to my colleague who
is searching a camera in this prize range…

7 months ago |This deal on XZ1 is definitely a no brainer and immediately got one! Thanks for the info!
Now I have to decide whether to get (E-PL5 + PL25mm + VF) OR (E-M5 + Pana 20mm) along with my 12mm and 45mm. Now that I have the XZ1 I guess the better option is the E-M5.
The agony of the initial build up of a system is ALMOST over

7 months ago |Not quite as bad as you’re making it out to be. It’s mostly in B&W, over 1600 ISO, in the midtones and in high contrast scenes. I’ve only really see two articles about it:
http://tysonrobichaudphotography.wordpress.com/2012/07/07/om-d-e-m5-vs-g3-whats-this-about-a-new-sensor/
http://www.patlu.com/olympus-omd-em5-banding-issue/
Plus, they’re working on it: http://www.43rumors.com/olympus-working-on-the-e-m5-plus-20mm-pancake-fix-and-says-four-thirds-development-continues/
Actually, I think it’s in the recent 1.5 update.

7 months ago |how good is it compared to the gf3 deal?
Jorginho
7 months ago |Depends on the lens you put in front of it. A 20 m 1.7, 45 mm 1.8 or 12-35 f2.8 will give you MUCH better IQ.

7 months ago |This looks like a nice deal for the XZ1. The video mode seems a bit outdated and has mixed reviews. Otherwise, I’d probably go for it. Can someone comment on the video? I don’t have high expectations for P&S, but at least want video IQ that is comparable to other cameras in this class.

7 months ago |Re. Olympus XZ-1…. I guess you can get this old thing for $200…. or for the same exact 200 bucks, you can get a brand new Nikon Coolpix L310 that has the same size and type sensor, higher resolution panel, and a 21x optical zoom instead of 4x, as with the Oly. Tough choice, hmmm?
BearT
7 months ago |What do you mean? XZ-1 features a 1/1.7 inch sensor while the L310 has a 1/2.3 inch sensor, if I am not mistaken.

7 months ago |Nikon = no dial, not compact and only got f 3.1-5.8
while the Oly = 2 dial, fits in a shirt poket and got f 1.8-2-5
i guess the only thing where the nikon really is better is the zoom range…
JP
7 months ago |That is a good deal, not as good as a MFT camera, of course, but considering not long ago that camera was $500 and it is so well reviewed, that deal is utterly phenomenal.
