  • Since the title image of the post has a bag, let me complain about bags.

Many manufacturers make the dedicated photography bags. But I still can’t find a “bag” which goes inside the other larger bag and mainly protects camera/lenses from the dust and scratching by other things inside. All the smallish bags typically also have rather thick walls, not very flexible and overall take too much space inside.

    • I use neoprene bottle sleeves from Target as an “inner jacket” for lenses and camera. Op/tech Lens Hat and Lens Sleeve are good, and not too badly priced, but only come in black. :-)

      • Neoprene bag sounds like a not a bad idea. Thanks!

  • So, my E-PM1 is behaving much better this week… Is this a good time to upgrade to the E-PL5 or E-M5? I was hoping to wait another year…

    • Anonymous

If you are happy with your e-pm1, but it is acting up, you may just want to replace it with another e-pm1 on the cheap so you can wait another year…

But as Steve points out, there is always something new just over the horizon, and if that worries you, you’ll never get to enjoy the improvements that exist today.

      • I agree, look at what you really need (or dearly want ) and make your decision accordingly. I liked the look of the OM-D E-M5 and for that matter the E-P5. However, I have a number of FT lenses which I truly like, so I’ve been watching for quite a while as the rumors evolved about the camera body with improved FT focusing (which we now know is coming out this month, at last).

So I’ll be waiting to see the real-world reviews of the OM-D EM-1 as they come out and unless there is a big surprise, I’ll be saving up my $$$ to buy it :-)

I’ll be particularly looking to see what the reviewers say about the performance of the Sigma FT lenses the new body. The longer Sigma FT macros have no similar models made by Olympus. With macro lenses, of course, one often ends up using manual focusing, but if the body can get close to a good focus via the AF, it will make the final manual adjustments much faster :-)

  • Steve

A big step up with the latest models.
Never say “wait a year ‘ there will always be better stuff. One smart move may be to wait for the em1 to come out. No doubt there will be lots of em-5 ‘s on the used market. But you’ll lose some portability if you go OMD.

    No one cares

  • Actually, the price on Amazon for the 9-18mm lens is 1 dollar off.

    lol

    • Yes, this isn’t the first time. I’m afraid that the links that are put in are often just the generic ones to the product at the retailer and are done without verifying that a particular vendor is participating in a particular sale. If you look at the discounts mentioned at the Olympus USA site (or what you see if you get their email on these), you will see that many, but not all, of the discounts are reflected at various retailers.

Why aren’t there any E-PL5 & E-PM2 body only deals? I already have two kit zooms (original and latest 12-42mm).

  • They hardly ever go away don’t they

    • cuius

Certainly not helping the brand image. In Europe Olympus are continually releasing “refurbished” cameras and lenses on eBay – can’t help their relations with the dealers. Is it any wonder they are having difficulty gaining market share.

  • stravinsky

These deals are never that great, I have never pulled the trigger on their account. It’s better to wait for Amazon to do it properly

  • PannyBoom

Incase Designs Corp DSLR Pro Backpack is allot better! i cant take the massive Olympus logo on my dam bag its freaking hideous

  • Tim

According to Olympus site, deals run until 2013-09-14. http://www.getolympus.com/us/en/featured_weekly_deals?icn=homepage&ici=chips_save150lenses

@hullyjr: “Deals” do exist for body-only versions of OM-D, E-PL5 and E-PM2. Order on Amazon and get 4% back in Amazon Rewards.
