Olympus will be the new Canikon and Sony wanted a piece of it. Otherwise, Sony would never want to be a part of Olympus, let's face it. The m4/3 proved that it's a much better choice for any photographer, these days, than the big and heavy classic SLR's who are becoming outdated fast fast fast. In 10 years by now, if not 5, whoever will carry a camera the size of a current full frame will look like an idiot. For me, they already look like retards, really. I am no Olympus fanboy as I used Sony and Canon, as well but I can tell you, when the four thirds models popped up a few years ago, I started to see the sense in it and now, even more with m4/3 which are the logical choice for any sane photographer, who knows how important is, sometimes, if not most of the time, to get unnoticed when capturing moments, to not get sore hands from kilos of lens and so on. Olympus is the best choice, currently and I guess they opened the way for the future. As you see, they (manufacturers) all try, lately to release their own "EVIL" cameras but fail, most of the time cause it's hard to keep up with a company that is known for exceptional optics. Sony, found the best solution and that is, buy a portion of the best and the future market leader. I guess Nikon and Canon, will share the numbers with Pentax and Panasonic, while the Market lead will be at Olympus and Sony, due to Sony's latest decision. Good thinking, Sony.

Olympus holds a special place in my heart as the OM1n was my first 35mm camera.

However, now that Sony has taken control I find myself thinking that the Oly brand will go the way of Minolta.

I then find myself hoping that Sony starts making Full Frame mirrorless cameras and then converts the NEX series to 4/3 format. Why? Because I prefer 4/3 to DX and fear they might discontinue 4/3 rather than DX.

Fortunately, the world does not operate according to my fears and desires. What do others think will happen with Oly?

"Was covering up losses in the imaging department not the main reason for the massive financial discrepancies which seem to have been happening long before mFT came along."
The Olympus financial scandal was not incurred by the imaging department, but rather was due to speculation and trading losses. It was hidden for years by rolling the loss over year to year. When they couldn't do that any longer, they tried to hide the loss in over priced acquisitions.

Eric, don't bother with this guy. He uses 1000 and 1 different user names, but you can tell its the same trollidiot. He loves his Canon Sheeple t4die (650D) beginner's DinoSlauR with retro Canon sensor from 2009 with an even more retro AF and 90% coverage pentamirror viewfinder. He probably doesn't even own a camera. Just wishes he did. The t4die is his dream camera. Even if he had unlimited funds to spend, it would still be his No.1 choice. t4die is the camera of choice for accountants, beancounters and people over the age of 80. By arguing and counterarguing with this trollidiot from a rational perspective, you help them achieve their goal. They are not interested in facts or opinions. Just in arguing and creating havoc. To deal with a trollidiot, you have to think like a trollidiot. Just as you would with any pest. This is the only way to destroy them. Trollidiots must die. Just like t4die.

Get real. C'mon whiners! Cant' you see how new tech is emerging? Especially someone calling himself a camera seller should acknowledge that fact. Desperately fighting against such an evolution is futile, and remaining cemented into old habits and knowledge won't help anyone. If such an attitude is applied in general to say engineering, science and general R&D, where would we be at? And where would that lead us? So don't stick your heads deep in the sand whilst blaming others for not seeing!

Admittedly DSLRs still sell well, of course they do. DSLRs have been state of the art camera tech for decades after all, and is sadly the only thing promoted by "Camera Seller & Co.", probably due to higher price/profits, and a deep reluctance to look into something new, because that will disturb their streamlined but oh so dull and deprived relationship w/ Canikon. I really find it a bit weird and contradictory that someone allegedly making a living out of camera gear is fighting against the technical evolution within that very field. In the long run that is not a wise move (or rather the lack of movement, that is). Such a ignorant and stagnant attitude is bound to fail. maybe not this year, but what about five years from now? Remember what happened to film w/ the advent of digital. It's like an iceberg... suddenly it topples, revealing there's actually a lot of mass underneath! Go figure.

Btw, I own no mirrorless - not just yet. That said, I do not reject or discard it! An whenever I choose to change that, I'd go to a salesman who knows what it's all about, and not to some stagnant geek trying to push his dusty inventory of old tech onto me.
