Olympus patent discloses a new XZ-3 lens.

The CES show is over and neither Panasonic nor Olympus unveiled any new interesting MFT or compact camera (as expected). Egami spotted an Olympus patent describing the lens characteristics of a possible future XZ-3 camera. The lens should be a 28-112mm f/1.4-1.8. And there is no sign of a sensor size increase yet. Recently Panasonic said it was interested in thinking on a premium compactc amera with fixed lens having a larger MFT sensor. Let’s see if such a camera will really come in 2013!

5 months ago |Actually, CES runs for 2 more days – until Friday, Las Vegas time.
I will be there on Thursday – not sure if I will stay around for Friday though.
However, no new m43 announcements except
- a hint from Sigma that there might be a future 50mm m43 lens
- the Polaroid Android camera and its m43 adapter coming in the spring

5 months ago |Taking the fact that Panasonic shown their own compact (tz40) with Hybrid O.I.S + at the same CES 2013 in the same time which is also “5 axis” (and they have this ois in video cams for a while already, see http://panasonic.net/avc/camcorder/features/hybrid_ois/) there is no guarantee that sh-50 have same E-M5 5-axis, and not cross-licenced solution from Panasonic. So only real tests will show what it has same effectiveness as E-M5 (btw effectiveness of Hybrid O.I.S + is very good in Panasonic video cams).

5 months ago |How about making it a 24 mm equivalent at the wide end, so that this camera matches the LX-7 and trumps the X-20 at the wide? A 28 mm equivalent is rather cramped, unless we talk about standard wide focal lenghts from 30 years ago.

5 months ago |I would urge Pana to concentrate on it’s sensor technology to compete against Olympus or other mirrorless cameras rather than creating a new type of fixed lens camera .
2013 is last chance for Pana if it still can’t bounce back to the game , likely I’ll consider Oly or Fuji for my next camera .

5 months ago |XZ-2 is bigger then XZ-1. If XZ-3 will be bigger then XZ-2 there is no sense to produce it. But XZ-2 with fast zoom is good equivalent mirrorless with slow zoom, bu it can’t be bigger then mirrorless camera.
Oly, make something like TG-1 but with micro43 sensor and non-interchangable lens, maybe prime equivalent 35mm. No hot-shoe, only fixed prime (17mm – equivalemtn 35mm), but good for underwater, for skying, and other sports. Small, soild, fast AF.

5 months ago |OK. What about $99? If the price is OK, we’ll luanch a production next week.

5 months ago |Good for “skiing and other sports” without a zoom, just with 35 eq? You must be joking.

5 months ago |What I like to see in XZ-3 is the same spec of XZ-2 but in a canon S90/95/100/etc size.

5 months ago |sweet lens
but I saw an XZ-1 in a shop the other day and was struck by the size – about the same as a GF3
wewwev above says the XZ-2 is bigger again, given the small sensor and they’re not cheaper it’s hard to see the point apart from long zoom range

5 months ago |People still don’t get it. It’s not about size of the camera body, but size of the lens! M43 with f1.4 zoom lens? Good luck.

5 months ago |1.8 at 112mm eq.? That would be great! But I like it in XZ-1 size. The XZ-2 is too bulky in my eyes.

Wrong, TG-2 is even better than best in class TG-1, and so it IS interesting.

but with OIS + more video cababilities.
43rd sensor + fixed 35mm equ. prime lense + 5 axis + 1080/60p + compact and superb cam that similar in concept to fuji x100

5 months ago |I just want to see a
- 5 axis
- 1′ sensor
- 28-112 f/1.8-2.5 lenses
- viewfinder
- rotate screen
- 12mp sensor.
- Touch screen
How big the lenses will be?
Ryan
5 months ago |Well it would be larger then the x20….the lens would have to be probably twice the size of the x20 lens.
it sounds great…but just wouldnt sell due to size.

5 months ago |They should create two models with the same lens and features. One small sized pocketable camera with simpler layout for semi-pros and one XZ2 sized for full control.
