Olympus lens patent (8mm f/3.5 fisheye that will never come’)

The japanese blog Egami (Click here) found a couple of new lens patents. There is no surprise. These are the lenses:
8mm f/3.5 fisheye
10mm f/2.8
12mm f/1.8
12mm f/2.0
12mm f/2.8
It’s easy to guess that the 10-12mm lenses are just different variant of the current Olympus 12mm f/2.0 lens. And if you look back at the early 2011 Olympis roadmap it contained an 8mm fisheye lens. But I doubt this lens will come any time soon. We already have a Panasonic 8mm fisheye and a super tiny and nice Samyang 7.5mm f/3.5 (Click here to get them on eBay) and an almost unknown Madoka 180 degree fisheye.
—-LInks:
The Olympus 12mm f/2.0 at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
The Panasonic lens costs around 600-700 dollars/Euro and is available at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
The Black Samyang 7.5mm lens is available on eBay (Click here).
The Silver Samyang 7.5mm lens is available on eBay (Click here).

6 months ago |I hope, the 2,8/10 is not just a different variant, it is very different to an 12mm and it coult be be a joken when it is build in a cheaper way(>500,-€), like the 45mm. it would be great for outdoor trips. i used a nikon 2,8/20 and a 2,8/24 for many years, i love the pictures from the 20mm!

YES! Gimme a 10mm f2.8!
I love my Nikon 20mm f2.8 and was so disappointed when the 2x M4/3 crop turned mine I to a 40mm.
I kept hoping it wouldn’t.

6 months ago |+1 for 10mm f2.8..
Wish they build it in the same size as 12mm f2. or even better a pancake, if its possible?!

6 months ago |I would have loved a 10mm f2.8 to have been available last year. I regularly used a combination of 20mm, 28mm and 50mm on my film slr and would have liked to have done the same with m43. I bought the 9-18mm zoom last year, so I wouldn’t buy a 10mm lens now, though it could still be a useful addition to the system.

6 months ago |Yep, we’ve already got the Panasonic 8mm and now the Samyan 7.5mm. That’s exactly why I think we’ll get the Olympus 8mm too!

6 months ago |You keep talking about the FE that wasn’t released yet. But that part of the roadmap was filled with the FE convertor for the kit lens. Just like the uwa and macro that were on there.
admin
6 months ago |No, The roadmap clearly said it is a new m43 lens. Not a converter. otherwise it would have contained the other converters too! Logical or not?
Brod1er
6 months ago |Agreed. A converter is not a lens. The quality is much worse. Scrap the FE and prioritise he 12-60- good call I say! I am very interested to see how far Oly can miniaturise this lens without significantly degrading performance.

6 months ago |The roadmap showed all 3 converters. Macro, wide and FE. These have already Bernd releases.
bilgy_no1
6 months ago |Exactly, they were all shown with a another symbol (with fuzzy edges) than the lenses too (sharp edges). Please admin, look it up, or ask Olympus.

Maybe they did plan to go for a dedicated FE, but cancelled it later because of market considerations.

6 months ago |My question is to Admin. My dilemma is I can’t decide between keeping the 14-54ii or the 12-60 and if I knew for certain the m43 12-60 was a sure thing I could go ahead with the sale of my 12-60. Admin, how confident are you of this 12-60 m43 lens release especially given the current predicament Olympus is in?
Do you realistically see an FT4 or FT5 around the corner?….and have you heard that it’s weathersealed with a weathersealed pen?
I could hold on to both but I need the money and 43rd’s future is looking darker every day…thank you.
admin

Any further news/info re the “Fuji styled” Oly camera rumour you posted on the Facebook page?

6 months ago |Where is any lens from any manufacturer that “joined” 4/3 this spring? This http://www.43rumors.com/ft-6-canon-joins-micro-four-thirds-coalition/ seems more likely than a third party AF lens.
Renze
6 months ago |That was an april fools day joke!
Miroslav
6 months ago |I know, but it seems there were many more jokes from these lens manufacturers, only not on April 1st.
houdini
6 months ago |Yes, it is interesting that other manufacturers can offer)
Today only Panasonic and Olympus major manufacturers of lenses.
And more interestingly, will continue Voigtlander produce lenses for M43!?
houdini
6 months ago |somebody that knows about Voigtlander ?
ha
6 months ago |Yes, 35/1.x or 75/1.8 for m43 at least with CPU for EXIF data would be fine
lnqe-M
6 months ago |Well, i need 50mm F2 macro and 90mm F2 macro
Mr. Reeee
6 months ago |You mean the Voigtländer Nokton 35mm f 1.4? And the 75mm f1.8 Heliar?
I have the 35mm!!! And the 75mm is on my short list of lenses.
As far as Voigtländer goes, I’m satisfied with the Leica M mount lenses. That way i can work with other format cameras and not be locked into M4/3.
Do we REALLY need another M4/3 fisheye? 3, or is it 4, are more than enough.
Nick Clark
6 months ago |I’d *love* to see a Voigtlander Nokton 17/f1 in native MFT mount – that’d be an amazing piece of kit!
George
6 months ago |In addition, the Sigma 4.5mm 180 degrees fisheye for Sony works fine with the Novoflex adapter. Its image circle is small enough to fit with the micro four thirds sensor completely.
houdini
6 months ago |Yes, I want to buy a 75 1.8, only is the old Hector! and how this lens will produce an image on crop 2 is not very clear…I mean, this lens can be very soft (it is for portraits) and have a strong HA.
According to some reviews it has sferohromatizm that’s not very pleasant at crop x2.
John
6 months ago |All very interesting lenses for me. On FX I love my 20/2.8 and the lack of a really wide fast prime at 20mm and 24mm FX equivalents have been a real impediment for me to buy in the m43 system (or any other small sensor system, including APS-C).
Hope they come out soon.

6 months ago |Now this is getting ridiculous. If you say “lens” and expect the reader to take for granted that you mean “Micro Four Thirds lens”, then you really should finally rename this site to “Micro Four Thirds Rumors”.
Not that I really believe many specific Four Thirds rumours to come up these days, and yes, there already is a Four Thirds fisheye lens made by Olympus which can be actually bought, but, hey.
Gekopaca
6 months ago |A 10mm will certainly the only lens I would buy.
Great for street-photo!
