2 years ago |I received my 12mm today and it’s simply just a beautiful, well-made lens. In the manual focus it focuses smoothly with stops at either end of the focus range. Set at 5.6, the depth of field goes from 5′ to infinity, great for zone focusing.
Olympus is making improvements in AF. On the E-P2 the 12mm focuses noticeably faster than the 20mm. It doesn’t have the buzzing as it locks into focus that the 20mm has. I no longer have the 17mm but this is faster focusing as well. So it looks like the old bodies will benefit to some degree with the new lenses.
As far as size, though it’s not a pancake, it’s a small lens and for me it’s very comfortable on the E-P2.
Yes, I wish it came with a lens hood. Not even a lens bag! I can’t complain too much as I got the lens employee purchase and once the LH-48 hood comes out there will be inexpensive copies coming out.
Shooting will come after work!

2 years ago |Good to hear i have also E-P2, and 12mm F2 is very fast focus, than pancake 17mm F2.8.

2 years ago |Very cool. So is it focus-by-wire or mechanical focus with motor drive like SWD?
Who cares about the size when quality is more important. It’s pretty small already. But it’s a shame they don’t put a lens shade with it. They know you’ll have to buy it…. Fuji x100′s shade is $145….

2 years ago |Wasn’t the 25 f1.4 released prior to the 12 f2? Why is it still pre-order?
david
2 years ago |Because it’s made by Panasonic…

2 years ago |When Olympus announced the 12mm, they said it would be available immediately. When Panasonic announced the 25mm, they said it would be available in August.

2 years ago |Understand company culture will know why…. Olympus only announces something when it’s ready. Panasonic wants to generate momentum.

2 years ago |Uh huh.
So, what exactly did Olympus say about delivery dates for the EPL3 and EPM1?
Yeah, I thought so.
They all pull this sort of semi-intro pre-announcement stuff, where it’s up to your imagination and limits of patience to decide how long, or IF, you’ll wait to actually see, try and/or buy something.
WT21
2 years ago |True, but Oly also has a track record of hitting their dates with good volumes of product. Panny misses dates, or a couple units trickle out, but everyone else is left waiting.

2 years ago |Has anyone seen a comparison of the new Oly 12mm up against the Pany 7-14mm f/4 zoom?
Comparison should be made at 12mm and at f/4 ..I would expect….. Just curious..I am guessing the 12mm is much sharper…but it would be nice to see by how much…..
Mr. Reeee
2 years ago |I’ll keep my 7-14mm, thank you.
12mm is nice, but 10mm would be better… WAY better… AFAIC!
Ihateidiots
2 years ago |I seriously doubt the 7-14 can be any sharper or less than the 12. The 7-14 is designed such that it was sharpest wide open.
frank
2 years ago |I have the 7-14 and have made some amazingly sharp pictures with it. The 20/1.7 is sharper but that is an exceptional lens.
But the 7-14/4 and 12/2 cannot seriously be compared as they have different uses. But seeing the prices of both the lenses on Amazon and being experienced with the 7-14 I cannot see how I’d choose the 12/2 over the 7-14/4 as it can do so much less and only is about 50$ cheaper at Amazon.
Funny, I’d never thought I’d say the 7-14 is a bargain!
Bob B.
2 years ago |I agree with all above ….I think my 7-14 is an amazing lens (If panny would only make their tele-zooms half a good!?!?), ..but I know as a photographer…if the Oly 22mm is a good as everyone says..it has to be sharper at its given focal length on the Panny Zoom. Right?
Good primes are alway sharper…..but I guess I did ask the question because my 7-14 is so sharp…in the back of my mind I was wondering….can anything beat it?
What does the Oly have going for it?… f/2 (big difference from f/4!!!!), small profile…and it is so damn cool looking especially with its secret-agent manual focus scale!
PLUS..fixed primes have a tendency to make me “go get a picture”…and THAT should not be underestimated.

2 years ago |12mm F2 or 7-14mm F4?
By center is 12mm and 7-14mm very like on 12mm F4, but in corner is 7-14mm better.
