Next shipment of Voigtländer Nokton by end of February/March
The most requested lens of the moment is out of Stock …worldwide! I asked a few dealers when the Nokton will be available again. Most of them told me they expect to receive new lenses by late February early March.
Example:
- Cameraquest will receive new lenses in February
– Fotoversand Bayern is accepting orders but will ship them to you in 2-4 weeks
- There are only two overpriced lenses available at Amazon Germany.
- Amazon France (Click here) says “Inscrivez-vous pour être prévenu lorsque cet article sera disponible.” which pretty much means that you have to wait a very long time before to get it
As you know I own the Nokton 25mm lens and I have to say that it is a spectacular lens! And thanks to the Nokton I convinced a Canon 5DmarkII owner to buy into the m43 system

2 years ago |Be patient, man. This is ridiculous price. Just order it now in some normal shop and wait. I’ve done like this, waited around 2 months, paid 750 EUR (lapetiteboutiquephoto.com from france). This is really special creative lens, worth that price, but not >1000 EUR

2 years ago |0,95 is great. But honestly: Is it really usable? Not from a lens quality perspective but from a practical view.
I’m using old OM-series lenses on my e-p2 (50/1,2, 50/1,8, and 100/2,8) and it is very hard to focus correctly in every day life (even using the EVF). Since the depth of field is so narrow and people always move back and forward a little only chance determins which part of a face will actually be sharp in the end. Ok, 25mm is not 50 and not 100 but I guess focusing manually a lens like that especially persons in real life is impossible.
Whats your experience?
Cheers,
Nukl

2 years ago |Yes f/0.95 is usueable! Of course you have to take time to focus well. But it works!

2 years ago |In my experience with the lens, at f/0.95 the depth of field is pretty shallow when your subject is close, otherwise it’s not really that tricky. Also, the lens is great at every f-stop… and you only use f/0.95 when the situation calls for it.
I also use some legacy glass that’s more telephoto (Canon FD 50mm f/1.2 and 100mm f/2.0), and I find the Voigtlander so much easier to focus because it’s much wider-angle like you mention, and because the focus ring is so smoooooth.)
It’s pretty funny how when such a large aperture is discussed for Micro Four Thirds there are always two different camps (who’ve clearly never used the lens) saying:
“That’s nothing special! It’s only like f/2.0 on a full frame camera!”
and
“That’s stupid! The depth of field would be so razor-thin it’s useless!”

2 years ago |From all I’ve read and the photos and videos I’ve seen shot with this this lens, it looks amazing!
It’s funny how the naysayers crawl out of the woodwork.
It’s not like this. It’s not like that.
Can’t shoot without stabilization.
Can’t focus manually.
Can’t. Can’t. Can’t.
No tool is perfect. You always need to learn and adapt when using something new, change habits, do things a bit differently. Part of the excitement are new things you’ll discover.
I’m dying to get one of these! (I put down a deposit for one.)

2 years ago |MF at 0,95 is easy with GH2 EVF, even without magnification.
Great lens.
My snaps with it:

2 years ago |In combination with the very good EVF of the G2 or GH2, manual focussing does’nt frighten me anymore. A bit more difficult is to focus-follow people when taking videos with that lens. This requires a good portion of routine.

2 years ago |Love this lens
And, yes, it’s usable
It works well ’cause the focus ring is very smooth and its rotation covers about 270°
I think this is the best focus ring I’ve ever tried (on par with the Zeiss ZF 100 f2,0 Makro…you must try it to understand what I mean…)
I’m using it with a GF1

2 years ago |The lens is definitely usable, and focus is distinctly less critical (if you’re far enough away for normal people portraits) than it would be with a 50mm of the same speed… although I haven’t yet gotten to use the f/0.95 Noctilux, and expect I would find some way to put up with its challenges if I got the chance.
Here are some sample images with the 25mm Nokton (some taken with the GH2, in case that’s of interest as well):

Wide open, the Nokton lacks really fine detail, and there’s definite color fringing. But it’s freakin’ f/0.95! And often, in the dim, that extra stop allows you to back off on the ISO and avoid cranking the sensor sensitivity up to a place where the snowstorm of noise would destroy far more detail than the lens would. And often (depending on what you’re shooting) the finest noticeable details of what you’re portraying are large enough that you don’t sweat the superfine artifacts.
It’s noticeably better at f/1.4, and from f/2 down it’s good enough for basically anything I want it to do.
I really like this piece of glass. I like it, frankly, more than I like most micro-4/3 sensors I have available to use it with.

2 years ago |I just received mine yesterday. The build and image quality is remarkable: I agree with Federico that the focus ring is beautifully smooth. I shot some quick video tests with it wide open and, although pulling focus was essential, it was easy to accomplish with a bit of practice because of the excellent engineering. I find the all-manual lens easier and more intuitive to operate provided you have the time to set up your image. I agree with admin that F0.95 is quite usable, and sometimes essential (living north of the 49th parallel can be like living under a 40-watt light bulb for part of the year).

2 years ago |Mine is on the way, ordered from a shop in Japan that had a few in stock and is (surprisingly) selling at the suggested retail price (around 900US). Can’t wait to get it.
