New Voigtländer Nokton 25mm f/0.95 review at Lenstip.
There is a new Voigtländer Nokton review written by Lenstip (Click here to read it). It’s a very detailed and accurate test (Good job!): “If you ever held any of Voigtlander lenses in your hand, you won’t be disappointed by the Nokton 0.95/25. Its build quality is really beyond reproach – we deal here with metal and glass, nothing more.”
At f/0.95 resolution is very low, it has high coma and vignetting(-2.08 EV). The good news is that “the image doesn’t feature any out-of-focus colour cast which means the longitudinal aberration is corrected splendidly” and there is a negligible level of chromatic aberration. Stopped down the lens performance is very high (from f/1.4 upwards) with sensational image quality in the frame centre.
The real problem of that lens is that it is sold out! There is only one single lens in auction on eBay (via german reseller). Camerquest announced that they have no camera left. And my second request goes directly to Voigtländer. Please make more MFT lenses like the 35mm and 40mm fast pancakes

I have the same lens for a while, and I have very different oppinion. The resolution is very high even wide open (on GF1 sensor), but the lens DOES suffer some bokeh CA.
My photos with it:

2 years ago |Note that the tests are performed from unsharpened RAW files (I believe they use DCRAW?), so once you apply sharpening the lowest values will rise a lot (not so much the highest values) so the final performance is much more even across the apertures (see the Canon 85mm f/1.2 for a comparison of before/after sharpening).
Don’t know about the bokeh CA. Maybe it’s quite dependent of the subject and it was lucky with those charts (I found it strange such lack of CA in out-of-focus areas at such wide aperture).
Great lens, in any case. Pity about the lack of electronic contacts to make the experience a bit smoother.

Cosina, please ignore Admin.
Forget the pancakes and build a m43 version of your awesome 125/2.5 macro (60/1.2 macro) and a 12/1.2 wide prime. Thanks!

100/2.5 macro or 125/2.5 macro or 60/1.2 macro are killer primes for m4/3. Same for 12/1.2
For portraits I like to use my 35-100/2.0 at 100mm with 4/3rds. I think the best prime for portraits is 80/1.2. a lens with awesome creamy bokeh. MF is okee for me. Please make one for m4/3rds. It could be the reason to buy me into m4/3 for these lenses.

2 years ago |careful with what you wish for… 12/1.2 should be a seriously big lens. i would have a smaller max aperture, as long as the size does not exceed the current 25mm nokton (it’s a perfect match for the g1).
i love the fact that cosina came up with a lens that was specially designed for m43, and i wish their next offerings are as good. having such lenses makes this standard so much better.

2 years ago |I know sharpness isn’t all that matters with this lens, bokeh and shallow DOF are arguably more important than sharpness, but at f/.095 that lens is just way to soft for me.
This is a perfect example of why I’d rather have an f/1.4 or f/2 lens that is actually sharp wide open then I would a f/0.95 lens that has to be stepped down. If a lens is border-line unusable wide open then as a result the lens is bigger, heavier, and more expensive then it would be if they just made a lens that started at a slightly more modest aperture.
Canon has the same issue with their 50mm f/1.2. I’d much rather have a sharp 50mm f/2 or 50mm f/1.4. Leica seems to be the only company you can trust when it comes to sharpness. When the print f/1.4 on the barrel they mean it…of course at their prices they better.

2 years ago |0.95 images are soft for sure but ‘unusable’? i dont agree.

2 years ago |Yes, f.95 seems quite usable IMO. If you’re doing 100% crops or huge prints of the corners you’ll be in trouble, but who shoots that way really? And as they mention in that article, its performance stopped down to f/1.4 is superb, better than what you’d likely see from a lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.4 anyway. If you need a maximum huge size print, well you may need to stop down, but otherwise, shoot wide open, and be happy with the results!
Also not to mention, this lens is only $900! There’s just nothing out there you can even compare it to in that price bracket. Sure we’d all want a perfectly sharp f/.95, but there’s no way you’d get it for $900

2 years ago |Hey now, Adorama has it for pre-order, they say they’ll ship in mid December.

If that’s true it would be faster than waiting for Cameraquest’s next shipment. Also, Adorama won’t charge you at all until the item ships so you don’t need the deposit.

2 years ago |If you’re shooting video, the image is not soft, rather it has resolution aplenty. This lens, manual and all, is a night-owl videographer’s choice.

2 years ago |I’d love to see both a 12 f2,0 (or similar fast ultra wide…a 10 f2,2 ?!? ) and a 50 f1,0 for MFT (ultra fast portrait lens)
Cosina , please , make ‘em!
Meanwhile I’ve just bought your fabulous Nokton (thank you!)

2 years ago |This lens is another huge plus for the system, it’s something people will buy m4/3 cameras for.
And yeah, it’s something 90% of m4/3 owners will want, but judging from the empty stocks, surely more than 10% will buy
