New reviews (GF3, SLRmagic Hyperprime and 14-140mm lens)

Adorama (Click here) posted a full GF3 review: “The GF3 is a sleek little camera. Its menu structure is logical, graphically pleasing and easy to navigate, and the touch controls are easily mastered making up for the lack of external controls (there are only seven). The camera is amazingly small yet easy to hold, exhibits minimal lag time (none if you prefocus) and should fit the needs of your typical well-heeled snapshooter“. GF3 links at: Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
Photozone (Click here) tested the Panasonic 14-140mm lens: “it is a compact ultra zoom lens for people who don’t just want to carry around several lenses and accept the performance penalty that are associated with such lenses.” 14-140mm links at: Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay.
Steve Huff (Click here) posted the full 12mm Noktor review: “When I was asked if I wanted to review this lens I was like “great, a 12mm 1.6 lens that is going to be super soft and a pain to use”. Boy was I proved wrong. So much so that this has become a fave of mine on my E-P3. The combo of the solid build and classic rendering make this a special lens for those times when you want a classic almost cinematic look.“. The lens cannot be preordered yet.

2 years ago |Unfortunately the review was far from stellar. I was eagerly waiting their opinion on the lens (it seemed like a great travel zoom), but it seems it is not in the same league as the 7-14 for example.

2 years ago |It’s half the price and 5x the range. So unlikely!!! Ihave both and it is a good lens albeit compromised. Want one lens and ability to change FL? This is the answer. I found it great for trekking when you need to quickly capture a big vista, then a mountain flower and then a portrait in close succession. It does bokeh at the long end and works ok in low light providing subjects are static. It is relatively big though- you could have the Oly 12, Panny 20, Oly 45 & new 14-42 X PZ for less weight!!!!

2 years ago |The 14-140mm lists for $850 and the 7-14mm for $1100, not exactly 50%.
I have both and the 7-14mm is in a different league, but I agree that the 14-140mm is an excellent versatile and flexible travel lens when you want to keep gear and lens changes to a minimum. When not traveling, the 7-14mm I almost always carry, the 14-140mm not very often.

2 years ago |Depends which side of the pond!! Holds true in UK. My local store offers some of the best Panasonic prices in the UK. 7-14 -£999, 14-140- £569.

PS I have no affiliation to them (other than buying lenses there!)

2 years ago |The 14-140 clearly have a lot of compromises, and even a 14-45 kit zoom have better resolution (within the common focal lengths). The 14-140 is still one of my favorite because of it’s versatility combined with fairly small size and good video performance. Pity they didn’t compare it directly to the Olympus 14-150 though.

2 years ago |the 14-140 is excellent for hybrid work imo (photo + video), the AF is completely silent and fast too, and works continously smooth in video too, therefore the slight mediocre performance at some focal lengths can be ignored imo (its good enough for video and travel anyday and especially good in daylight, the thing gives you 28-280 equiv. focal length, therefore extreme flexibility in a well built but rather heavy package, i like this lens a lot, but you have to use it for what it is.

2 years ago |Eh, I’d take the 14-140 review with a huge grain of salt.
Photozone also published an unfavorable review of the Pentax 18-135 WR, but I’ve seen multiple folks post excellent results from it in a range of situations. They also rave about that lens’ handling. I haven’t spent as much time looking for 14-140 results, but what I’ve seen so far has been pretty solid.

2 years ago |The review seem pretty accurate to me. The results are similar to what other reviewers have said and my own experience with the lens. Btw, I don’t consider it a negative review for a 10 zoom.

2 years ago |In the case of Mr. Huff, I would humbly point out that it’s not a “review” if the company of the product you are reviewing is paying you.
It is, in fact, a long advertisement for the lens.
