New Panasonic GF2/GF3/G3 firmware. 45-175mm vs 45-200mm video comparison
panasonic lumix g x vario pz 45-175mm video test from Roderick Kar on Vimeo.
Panasonic just released the new firmware for the GF2/GF3/G3 cameras. You can download it here: http://panasonic.jp/support/global/cs/dsc/download/index.html. The new version 1.1 added the function for using the new power zoom X lenses, the Panasonic 14-42mm X lens and the Panasonic 45-175mm X lens.
Our reader Roderick Kar made the video comparison you see on top and posted some image samples on Flickr (Click here). And you can see the “transparent” version of the X lenses at DC.watch (Once on the site scroll down to see the pics).
According to Panasonic both lenses should be available in October but I wouldn’t bet on that. The Panasonic-Leica 25mm f/1.4 was supposed to be available in US and European stores in August but only very few lenses have been shipped to “western” countries in late September. And are now still out of Stock at Amazon, Adorama, B&H, J&R, eBay. Until now Panasonic cameras and lenses always have been in Stock 2-3 months after the announced availability month.

I know many people, using the 25mm. And I’m living in a western country(Or isn’t Germany one of these?)
Please, do not exaggerate it!

For me it’s delivery in homeopathic dosis …

I had it since middle of august but the photos were not as good as the ones from the Nokton. Bokeh was all over the place and Nokton handled light much better. I guess the fact that it has AF @1.4 is what makes it stand out from the crowd.

I’ve had my 25/1.4 for over 2 months now. No problem in ‘Western’ UK!!!

8 months ago |The X lens works on every M43 camera, why does people keep on insisting it won’t work on their GF1 etc, even E-P1 work flawlessly without any update at all!

8 months ago |Focus while zooming is definitively much better than the 45-200mm, which is fairly bad in that respect.

The 45–200 had got a new firmware in the meantime – mostly for enhancing focusing behavior while shooting video.
So it would be fair to compare the 45–200 with new firmware 1.1…

8 months ago |I like the 45-175mm quite a bit. I especially like the size compared to the 14-140mm. Zooming in and out would probably smoother too compared to turning the zoom ring by hand (although the focus hunting towards the end of the video looked a little scary). But I think I’d rather have an extra 31mm on the wide end than an extra 35mm on the long end.

The download for the firmware update program to Ver. 1.1 is temporally suspended, in order to make sure the reliability of the firmware, especially in case of the use of Four Thirds Lens couppled with mount Adapter.
The download will be available back again around the middle of Oct.”

8 months ago |Does anybody know if there is a possibility to switch the new X lenses’ OIS off when used on a PEN? I’m really interested in those lenses but if this isn’t possible it certainly will be a deal breaker, for me.

8 months ago |I don’t think you can on Oly bodies, it will be the same as with the 14-42mm as that has no OIS switch either. But I think in this case you probably wouldn’t want to unless videoing. Power OIS is easily superior to the inbody IS on the Olys.
