New Panasonic 25mm image samples and “crazy” unboxing video.
Panasonic Leica 25mm unboxing and testing
The new Panasonic-Leica standard lens should be availble in “western” country any time soon. Time to give you an update about the latest image samples and in Stock status. First there is a comparison shot of M9+50mm and Leica 25mm on G3 on Flickr (its huge size!). Also at Steve Digicams Forum you can find image samples of the E-P3 with the Leica 25mm. And a lucky owner shared some pictures at Dpreview forum.
So, where can you find the lens in Stock?
Of course in Asia at Amazon Japan and eBay. In Europe there are some of them in Stock at Amazon UK at Amazon France. US readers have to be patient (preorders at Adorama and J&R).

9 months ago |That is a bit crazy, a nice lense that would be great for digiscoping and so it seems some professional post-production.

9 months ago |I have the 25mm since acouple of weeks: The more I use it, the more it impresses. Sharpness and microcontrast is great – even better than my Zeiss 50/1,7. Colors are better with the Zeiss though. The 25mm is excellent and the Panasonic 20mm is very good. The Olymus 12mm is also excellent. I keep all three.

9 months ago |I dislike those Hong Kong guys making some crazy videos trying to exaggerate the quality of the product by doing some non-comprehensive test with the goal for sales and marketing, though it is a creative video.

Frederic Hew
9 months ago |The lego is very nice but once it comes down to actual testing, the one obvious weakness of the lens – focus breathing – is exposed.
This lens is awesome for stills but not suitable for pulling focus while shooting video.
Ulli
9 months ago |i see alot of socalled “focus breathing” in respectable movies too, so i wouldn’t call that a specific weakness, especially since its not really an issue.
Frederic Hew
9 months ago |It’s not an issue for me because I don’t shoot much video and anyway I do not have this lens… Otherwise I would have considered it an issue… to each his own.
Otherwise the new PL is somewhat sharper than the older version, at least wide open. The old PL is somewhat less sharp than the Nokton – stop for stop (I’ve compared the two lenses extensively) – while the new version, according to Lenstip, performs better than the Nokton at f/1.4. That’s a very strong point going for it.

9 months ago |…but when is the GF7 coming with this lens discounted as the kit lens with the camera it deserves???????
Keith
9 months ago |The lens has been in the UK for nearly 2 months now. I’ve had one for 6 weeks, paid £435. Does that mean the UK is not a western country?
Keith
9 months ago |Oh, it doesn’t half hunt whilst focusing. Very poor compared to the 14-45 or the 12/2
katy
9 months ago |Where did you buy it for £435? Mathers are showing it for £479 but not yet in stock! and they are usually well priced in Panasonic gear.
MP Burke
9 months ago |I found one dealer listing it at a similar price (postage extra), but they’re out of stock at the moment.

9 months ago |Amazing. If you ever think you are excited about getting a new lens — you’re not. That bar has been raised.
Similarly, I always knew the GH2 fanatics had a screw loose

9 months ago |Kinda of creative video, boosting the extra from the bokeh to show the ability of the lens. other than boring comparison. it is something interesting.

9 months ago |It is possible to get it in Germany, but not in one of the shops you get money for if you set a link to them;)
In one of the two biggest “Western” markets, the European Union, you can get the lense. Please do not exaggerate the mistakes/problems of Panasonic. It is again just a problem of Panasonic-USA.
So, it is completly wrong to say:”The new Panasonic-Leica standard lens should be availble in “western” country any time soon. “

YOU WROTE IT, man!
” BH says the arrival is October but if Panasonic is going to mess it like it did with the Leica 25mm standard lens than we will have to wait at least a couple until November”

9 months ago |Funny video, too bad auto-focus hunting is quite noticeable with an unsightly mechanical visual quality to it…
Aaronig
9 months ago |I just got mine yesterday
Although the shipping cost a little extra to get it from outside the US, but it was worth it. It’s very light, smooth focus ring, fast auto-focus, and very nice and bright. My new favorite lens c:
Leiya
9 months ago |Does it focus as fast as an Olympus 14-42 MSC and the Oly 12mm on an E-PL1? Or does it focus just about the same as the slow 20mm f/1.7?
Keith
9 months ago |In between. Much faster than 20/1.7 but noticeably slower than 12/2 or 14-45. Dont have 14-42

That intro!!! 2days of work… all for a pissy and lame 5min work showing the lens off!

9 months ago |jokes video, crap typeface lol. It looks like a good lens, panny shot themselves in the foot with the 20 though, should have made a 25 and 17.5… There’s not a really compelling reason to upgrade to either a 35 or 50 equivalent focal length because of the 20 f1.7. I thinks marketing made uber fuckup
