2 years ago |I cannot believe an Olympus lens now is finally cheaper in Europe than in the US. Amazon.de’s price on the 45mm is considerably cheaper than the US price. Great news. I had my 45mm pre-ordered at Amazon.de, it should ship any day now.

2 years ago |Is it just me? Whenever I read “the 45mm lens” my first reflex is not to automatically associate it to the Olympus.
Speaking of it. I don’t want to start a fanboy 1.8/45 vs 2.8/45 macro thread, but it would be interresting to see how both lens compares at f2.8 and f4.0 in terms of absolute IQ. I know. One if faster, cheaper and faster focusing. The other one has OIS, hardly any distortion and 1:1 magnification with non-moving front element.
Are there any head to head review on comparable IQ?

2 years ago |I wouldn’t be surprised if the Olympus beats the Panasonic Leica at f/2.8. The Olympus is supposed to be brilliantly sharp wide open already.

It is very sharp wide open. A wonderful addition to the M43 lens line up. I use an EP1 and FL36R flash and the fill in capability for portraits is excellent. I also carry a 17mm Oly and can see a significant difference in sharpness between the 2 lenses. The fill in function also is more consistent on the 45mm vs the 17mm. My set up seems to have a mind of its own occasionally when using the fill in on the 17mm in adequate light. After seeing the increased sharpness one starts to wonder about the Pana 20mm and how much difference it could make.

2 years ago |Leica used to be good when the price it good, but at this point, it is nothing more but a gimmick. Really, at a fraction of the price, you should expect a fraction of the performance too.

2 years ago |I live in the US and received my Olympus 45mm f/1.8 from Korea last week, via eBay…($399 shipped)…That is $60 cheaper than the current Amazon price linked above. Have the lens shade coming from Canada. So I will have the lens AND the shade for the Amazon US price for the lens alone. (WOW..I just checked the price from the same page I bought mine from S. Korea and the price is currently over $500 ?!?!?!?!?
Does anyone have any experience with this lens on a GF1. I think it is a little slow to focus (not horribly…but def. a little slow). Curious to hear someone else’s experience.
