It isn’t even an argument. It is an obsession for shallow DOF.
Honestly, I have seen more images, which were bad, that did not have enough DOF, than images. which weren’t good because not enough shallow DOF.

It was never about cheaper lenses, just about smaller and lighter. There are many people, who wait for high quality in m4/3, which would also accept a price, which the competition has for an equivalent lens. Somif you don’t have the money, don’t argue against it, just get a lower quality zoom for a lower [...]

No, a button interface is inferior, because you can’t read the status of the camera without switching it on. This pattern is the very reason, why the control layout of a GH2 is still much superior: lots of labeled analog switches and dials.

Nonsense, really. Apps means third party software development (controlled). It means an App store, it means stable version contolled programming interfaces for devices more diverse than Apple products. It took Apple billions of dollars to get these things right, and you think that a photographic/optical company like Olympus will do that right, even if they [...]

If mamagement (or lead engineers) would bother to read what is discussed in tzhe forums, they would know pretty well that a custom configuration is meant to be accessed easily and quick. Again, they had 10 years time to learn that. Apps are not meant to make firmware more customizable. And in general, if only [...]

Apps aren’t meant to ber another firmware. What you describe should be responsibility of the manufacturers software. Apps are aimed that a user can download applications from third party companies to had functionality to the camera’s interface. That is completely different and opens the door to misbehaving Apps, if the camera vendors does not control [...]

Why? Camera industry had 10 years time to learn by user feedback to do things properly. I think they had enough feedback. To bury access to bracketing and custom configurations (Mysets) deeply in menus, isn’t best practice since the Panasonic G1 or the G2 came out respectively. No one can tell me that the configurability [...]

Before talking about Apps for cameras, Olympus and other manufacturers should concentrate their efforts to design and develop better firmware. The EM-5 menu system isn’t stellar in terms of usability. The configurability, though manifold, is crippled by unnecessary limitations (can’t set a button to this and that, one buttons has other limitations than the other). [...]

The grip is absolutely necessary. Without it, holding the camera for a long time, becomes tiring. I mostly only use the landscape grip.

Due to the different ergonomics, the 14-140mm is too bulky for an EM-5 (the GH2 has a better grip) and the aperture was kind of flickering around on an EM-5 body. I can’t tell if that was an individual lens problem though. On the other hand it works fine on my GH2. The 14-140mm’s aperture [...]

To me, this could be bad news. If (and only if) the current 7-14mm is discontinued to be replaced with a version, which has OIS, that could mean, that Panasonic won’t implement IBIS any time soon. Now, with the release of the Olympus EM-5, I would consider this as a big strategic mistake. Even if [...]

I don’t know why Admin puts so much emphasize on wether the EM-5 is available at Amazon. At least in Germany, the EM-5 is available at local dealers with no problems. No need to refer to Amazon’s stock status. IMO, Admin should completely refrain from continuously reporting the availabilty status at major Internet dealers at [...]

To me, the Lightroom interface is the most organized UI, you can find in any raw processor. The single module interfaces of Aperture, AfterShot Pro, RawTherapee, DxO, and Capture One are relative to Lightroom very cluttered and not good organized. In Lightroom you have one edit panel, from which you can easily access every editing [...]

Hmm, I can’t see anything special with the cited images. They certainly don’t show, that the EM-5 is the best m4/3 camera to date. The IQ and JPEG colors are about the same what you can get from any contemporary large sensor camera.

Switching it off still saves more of precious battery life. I am not sure, if a camera on stand-by shuts the sensor down completely, in order to get it cool again. Also I found that I have cleaner sensors with my GH2 than with my former Canon 40D. One reason could be that I switch [...]

So if somebody puts some grain of salt into an overhyped camera, he is an idiot? a reviewer, who cannot follow the point of retroish style, has no brain? His video review is up to the point of what a video review can be. Much better than this unfamous “unpacking something” reviews on home desks. [...]

I had the impression that he said that the AF quite often did not hit the intended target. And I also think that he does not lake the retor design much and sees no point in it (even things that the original OM design was better). He compares the OMD design with example of retro [...]

The OMD fans have invented a new artistry: downplaying. A wrong positioned on/off switch is one of the most seriously ergonomic flaws a camera can have. I can sys that from experience, because my Canon EOS cameras had the same position: bad, very bad. Placing the on/off switch where is belongs: near the shutter button [...]

No it is very informative. It shows in practice the pros and odds the camera has. It shows especially the handling issues of too cramped controls (due to oversized LCD), bad position of on/off switch, issues with AF in real world, and the useless sticking to retro designs. Who really cares if a contemporary Olympus [...]

Hopefully not. If you want something smaller get a G3, and pay for the usability deficits due the smaller size. The GH2 design is already close to perfect, so that all Panasonic needs to do is to improve the haptics slightly and possibly use even better quality material (the current is not as bad as [...]
