I would expect a weather sealed 50-200 f/3.5-4.5 designed after the 12-50. Any faster than that would be too big.

This is completely OT (or is it?) Admin, I would suggest that you stop comparing 4/3 lenses to 135 glass. We all understand the equivalence issues and those little comments draw unnecessary fire. Everybody else, please ignore the DOF police. Thin DOF is an artistic preference and those who fanatically pursue it are hardly artists, [...]

Just an observation:
In m4/3 terms 20mm is the sweet spot for size.
In every format 75-85mm is the sweet spot for quality. -

Maybe, maybe not. I’m having a lot of fun with my E-5 and won’t need anything “better”. For the first time in the history of 4/3 the quality is there (for my needs). Thus, my interest in those recent comments is merely academic. For all I care the E-xxx could be a somewhat larger m4/3 [...]

Nah, I don’t believe it for a moment, unfortunately. “Better than E-5″ may be interpreted in more than one way. e.g. “faster AF than the E-5′s”.

It seems the 75 will come rather soon. Perhaps even next week?
The 12-35 is a very nice zoom which will make m4/3 even more attractive, but frankly it’s a bit boring to me. OTOH this 75 is delicious. At least for now.

Well, the logic is certainly in place (“one beautiful system” etc). In the meantime you can use the 14-54 II. It’s almost as fast as the Panasonic short zoom and more affordable too.

Possibly, if the GH3 turns out to be medium format.

Why not? The front element looks just wide enough.

Just a guess: Tamron is going to announce a fast(ish) standard zoom before Photokina for half the price and Panasonic wants to be there first. Otherwise both lenses would be released together, in September.

IMHO you are rather optimistic regarding the price of those zooms. If they are indeed optically superior to other m4/3 zooms you should compare it to the Panasonic 7-14 (currently circa €1000) and add 20-25% for materials, stabilization and sealing. €1200 is a rather sound estimate, I’m afraid.

According to the rumored specs, the 12-35 should be a perfect match to the E-M5. Pity such a kit won’t be available.

Good idea (I mean, to relax just a bit. Not going to hell. Though I’m going there too).

sneye commented on the blog post Another slow überzoom patent (when are we going to see a f/2.0?) 2 weeks ago · View
F/2 zooms for m4/3 would essentially be the same bulk and heft as the 4/3 versions, so why bother? All that is needed is a way to focus the existing lenses in a seamless manner. However, personally I’m through with fast zooms. For my needs, primes are better in every sense.

Let me guess: a large 17-50 f/3.5 for NEX (and m4/3).

The 75 is going to be expensive. I can smell >1000$ (but it WILL be fantastic).

Or perhaps “even better than the E-5″ means a m4/3 body that focuses 4/3 lenses even faster than the E-5? Frankly it’s the only sensible possibility.

Different mounts. M4/3 is smaller so it won’t fit.
