The book ‘The undercover economist’ includes a discussion of this limiting. It’s called ‘price discrimination’ because it allows companies to use multiple price points for essentially the same product.

I tidied up the mock-ups of the E-M5 using admin’s images:

Whatever the details of the specs, this camera is exciting for the street photography community. It will allow for a more considered type of street photography using the viewfinder.

Yep, that’s what he said but I think it was an innocent mistake.

I’d go for a hack that turned off the iA blue LED light when iA mode is on.

Peter Thomson commented on the blog post M43 cameras now cheaper than high-end compact cameras. 6 months ago · View
Don’t write off the GF2 yet. If you use the 14mm or 20mm it’s pocketable and fun. You get the same (excellent) sensor as the GF1 and if you’re processing RAW then the outdated jpg engine is irrelevant. The thumbwheel gives you all the aperture and shutter speed manual control that you’ll get from the [...]

Peter Thomson commented on the blog post Panasonic GX1 news roundup (special preview in London) 6 months, 1 week ago · View
I went to the Panasonic launch event last week. The GX1 is a very interesting little camera and it really is worth trying it out. It feels like a worthy successor to the GF1. I wrote a little preview on how it performs as a street shooter on my site at http://www.londonstreetphoto.wordpress.com If you’re in [...]

I also tried out the GX1 with a couple of the X lenses. The combination is great. The X lenses really do make the GX1 into a real contender. You get more manual control with the 45-175mm than you’d think. It’s hard to convey just how compact and powerful this lens is. The 14-42mm is [...]

Peter Thomson commented on the blog post (FT5) HOT! Panasonic GX1 video and pictures leaked! 6 months, 2 weeks ago · View
In a couple of shots it looks like he’s scope-sighting using just the hotshoe as a guide. I do that when shooting the 20mm or 14mm on the street. If you’re shooting wide enough then you and spray-and-pray faster than trying to frame with the LCD.

Sorry dsaf, the look of the camera can be important for street shooting, where you don’t want to pointing a big SLR at strangers on a city street. Forbes is not alone. There are a lot of Leica fans who want SLR performance *hidden* in a rangefinder style body. It’s not unreasonable to want an [...]

Maybe the lens announcements in January will coincide with the release of the GF7 with built in view-finder? – Since it seems the GX1 won’t have one.

The hood is very effective (although expensive). It does a good job of protecting the lens and is just right for eliminating stray light.

The 12mm is probably a great match with the GH2. As I said in my review, it was a bit much on the GF2. Another thing that Mungozan pointed out quite rightly is that the autofocus is fast. So fast in fact that I didn’t need to use the distance scale focus as much as [...]

Great review, the GF2 would make a good travel camera. And good call on pairing it with the 20mm lens.

Great review, but to be fair to the GF2. It’s the same sensor so the images will be just as good as the GF1. And you don’t need to use the touchscreen, you can control everything from the manual thumb wheel.
