You are right. “unreachable” was ment towards the UWW Zooms.

These are quite different application areas. The 7-14 and 9-18 are more flexible but nearly unusable for moving objects at (low) available light and can produce nearly no DOF effects. The 12/1.6 is more specialized but opens application areas that were unreachable for m4/3 so far.

Due to the long focus throw you can focus VERY accurately in combination with a 10x magnification in the EVF.

The HyperPrime has a distortion of only about 1%, so it does not need electronic correction. A close focus of 15 cm compared to 20 cm is a large difference if you plan to use it for close ups and allows you to play even more with DOF. Another point is that the “manual” focus [...]

Aspherical surfaces do not automatically mean that out of focus areas are not smooth. As you can see with current Leica M ASPH as well as with the new DG Summilux, ASPH lenses help to combine perfect sharpness with a neutral out-of-focus rendering.

The samples in that article are quite useless in order to compare them. Neither sharpness (center/border) nor bokeh can be judged as expected. The Leica looks less sharp but the focus point does not seem to be the same in the f1.4 example. In fact the Leica has a better resolution. I had both and [...]

If I were Panasonic, I would ask the site to remove these samples. They might be nice snaphots as personal remembrance for that event but they are way too unprofessional to show the potential of these lenses.

How poor is that? Does Samsung’s marketing really believe to convince customers which such an obvious fake?

It was not done incorrectly but the spool of thread that stick out of the focus layer was irritating. Meanwhile the images were replaced in the article by a more meaningful setup and a more accurate procedure with many samples that were compared afterwards. The only feature that could force me to an upgrade would be a genlock or any other help to synchronize two cams of that kind.

1080p60 would be fine but I have some doubts if 28 Mbps will be sufficient to cover that clearly. And I am quite sure that already the GH2 hardware has that potential – so it will be propably just a matter of time until we see that on the GH2 as well. THe GH3 will [...]

I like that shot – but not for the rendering of the circles of confusion.
