Sony still has to come up with a camera that looks and feels like a camera, rather than a minimalist’s wet dream combined with a disturbingly large frontal protrusion.
I still love my Volkswagen… I mean, 7D.

Nice to see a Canon rumors site that is a bit similar to this one. I always enjoy reading up on this site and Canon Watch is looking good so far, so best of luck to Frank! It’s especially nice to see the combination as I have decided to keep my 7D and put my [...]

Yes, I’m still a sucker for the lenses though.

I’m a very casual photographer and find myself leaving my 7D at home way too much. Most recently I took my S95 to the Canadian Rockies instead of my 7D. M43 might fit me much better.
And yes, price is the deciding factor. The 12/2 and 25/1.4 are awesome lenses, with a pricetag to match.

I’m really torn.
Keep my 7D and maybe buy a GX1 or EPL3 with kit zoom?
Trade in my 7D for a GX1, kit zoom, 12/2 and 25/1.4?
Trade in my 7D for an E-M5 with 20/1.7 and 45/1.8?All interesting choices.

“Panasonic wants to deliver more high quality lenses.”
I hope they are talking primes. The zoom lenses seem to be pretty well covered, and Panasonic has been able to produce some very nice primes already.

“the best prime lenses will continue to be branded with the Leica name”
Does that mean Panasonic is committed to producing more Leica branded primes? That would be great news, if a similar price as the 25mm is maintained. A nice 17mm perhaps?

It’s kinda funny, really. Over here people are complaining about sensor tech, and over at Sonyalpharumors people are complaining about the poor lens roadmap.

+1 A lot of camera for the price! I have now gone from asking “Is the camera worth it?” to “Do I really need that much camera?”, which makes answering the question a luxury problem. It certainly seems to be every bit the m4/3 equivalent of my current 7D. Thankfully I have two weeks in [...]

It’s really not that big. Look at the preview from Pekka Potka and the picture of the E-M5 side-by-side with the E-P3 + viewfinder.

I think this is a great camera! No disappointment here. Although I would have liked to see the kit with the 14-42 available here in NL as well. It would have saved me some money for prime lenses. But I guess the 12-50 has its advantages (12mm, macro, weather sealing). Looks like a great user! [...]

Yes, the aperture ring is a great advantage. I have done a few stop motion videos, and fixing the aperture is a great advantage to maintain the closest possible exposure from frame to frame. Something I couldn’t do with my Canon lens. Will see what I do once I have made the switch to m4/3. [...]

Why? I like the idea of a nice metal, manual focus lens, and don’t want to start with legacy glass and adapters (personal preference). Voigtlander can make them very compact, much smaller than the 25mm PL. If m4/3 cameras are easy to focus manually (I have no idea if they are), it would be a [...]

But why not f/1.4? Why the big f/0.95? Everything 25mm or wider is f/4 or slower.

While I love Voigtländer, and this lens seems great, I really wish Voigtlander would also come up with some more ‘standard’ primes. If they made 17.5 and 25mm f/1.4 lenses for about 400 euros, I think they would be very popular. Voigtländer is the lens of choice for Leica M owners on a budget. Why [...]

One of the elements I have to consider is that I will have a budget now (I’m trading in my 7D), but likely won’t be spending great amounts any time soon after. If I buy the E-M5, I might be able to get it with the kit lens and 20mm. If I buy the GX1, [...]

I will certainly wait for the first reviews before deciding. Both are great and it’s mostly down to how I feel about the cameras, and how much I want to invest in lenses.

I will be buying into the m4/3 system in a few weeks time and am torn between the GX1 and E-M5. Let’s say the sensor is the same. Why the E-M5? The E-M5 will have a better build quality, has the EVF built in, has image stabilisation built in, should have better overall AF performance, [...]
