Yes, I second the “One beautiful system” dream. Hopefully they try out a PDAF on sensor system, that will enable the 4/3 lenses properly. In the meantime, I’m personally happy with a very basic m43 primes set-up. I don’t really need to shoot sports or birds right now.

@Boooo! Have you read the journal article? There are two entries tagged E-xxx. I very much doubt that is accidental. I know you have a lot invested in 4/3 lenses, thought you would like this kind of news?

@Sneye, did you read the jounal entry I linked to? In this, he talks about the E-M5, talks about using the E-5, and then states that tbe “new stuff” under NDA is actually better than the E-5. He then tags the article with E-xxx. Given that this guy uses these cameras professionally, tests new “stuff” for [...]

We’ll wait and see ehh? Olympus did say some time ago that they will make another mid-level four thirds body. They just haven’t been in any hurry!

Remember, there’s a new E-XXX coming soon as well. 16MP sensor, 5-axis IS, in a 4/3 DSLR. Damian reckons it’s better than an E5:

If it’s weather sealed and not too pricey, I reckon I might try to track down a second hand HG telephoto for wildlife and sports…. -

Olympus has employed some good marketers, much as we love to hate such folks. But with expected price so high on this lens, I’ll pass, and wait for a fast zoom. Don’t
mind waiting.
What about you Admin, any of the latest crop of gear going to be added to your personal arsenal? -

The Olly 12-50 is 57mm dia x 83mm long, weighs 211g The Panny 12-35 is 68mm dia x 74mm long, weighs 305g (extends to 96mm) So the Panny is actually 50% or so bigger than the Olly. Of course, with this you get faster glass and OIS. The really great news is that Olympus will [...]

One aspect of the larger sensor cameras that many users gloss over: what if they want to get greater depth of field in low light? How is a “FF” sensor camera with an 85/F1.8 going to handle a candle lit party without losing all context? They have to use a flash…….which goes down really well [...]

I love the lens, but I’m not going to buy it. I have three faster primes that cost me less in total: 14/2.5, 20/1.7, 451.8. If I was carrying this zoom, I’d still carry the 20/1.7 & 45/1.8 for the speed. The 35-100 will be a different story. Heck, I might even leave the 45/1.8 [...]

DonTom commented on the blog post GF3 with 14mm pancake lens for $314. Less than the LX5
3 days, 18 hours ago · ViewHi Will. Good to hear. I wasn’t impressed with the GF3, it felt really flimsy, particularly the fit and finish around the bottom (battery door etc). Will have a look at one next time I’m in Singapore. Still think I’d rather have the E-PM1 tho, if I was to get a tiny m43 cam.

3 days, 19 hours ago · ViewBut please use Admin’s eBay links to find it! I bought mine from a bricks and mortar store in Malaysia for similar, but there is plenty of chatter on the forums about these Taiwanese vendors. All seem pretty legit.
Cheers,

3 days, 20 hours ago · ViewJeez, are you men or mice
? Believe me, the GF3 feels like it was built to last 18 months before something “gives”. The only reason to buy this is as a rear lens cap to hold the 14mm……but even then you have to keep the battery charged, and carry a separate charger, yadayadayada…… [...] -

@Anonymous, perhaps you’re right. But I’ll trust my own eyes and one or two respected reviewers over an anonymous comment on this forum!
Besides, absolute IQ is a load of BS, to me. There’s as much crap talked about lenses as wine. -

Don’t see myself getting it for that price. It looks like the Panny 35-100 won’t be much bigger. Plus it will be weatherproofed…for maybe $300 more?I know F2.8 is quite different than F1.8, but I already have the 20/1.7 & 45/1.8, so consider myself covered for low light. As far as DOF goes, 75/2.8 gives [...]

Damien knows how far to push an NDA, and he’s been pretty accurate with hints in the past. We’ll see an Exxx, which will have everything the E-M5 has, bar tge weathersealing. The 5-axis IS wasn’t developed overnight. Olly will have been holding off on the lower end 43 DSLR to allow for it. I’m [...]

Hi Kesztio. My copy also has the play. Never noticed it in use, but just checked. Not noticeable when rotating the ring. I think you worry too much….this isn’t claimed to be of the quality of the 12/2.0!
Talking of the 12/2.0, it’s focus ring has about 8mm of back and forth play I think?! -

Nice interview. Having musing this morning on the nature of “natural” bokeh etc, relating to sensor size. Anyone know what the sensor size of our eye is?
