darrask commented on the blog post (FT5) Olympus 75mm f/1.8 priced at around $799. In Store by end of June /early July! 4 hours, 11 minutes ago · View
The 75mm F1.8 does not correspond to a full frame 150 F1.8 lens. It only does in terms of angle of view and speed. If you consider depth of field (and many will for that type of lens) it corresponds to a 150mm F3.6 lens. I find it natural that you have to pay less [...]

Hopefully Panasonic will release a second version of the 20mm one day with faster, silent focus, stepless aperture (T-stops?) and stabilization?
Sorry, I am just dreaming… -

“Besides, what’s the point of shooting a test chart if you can’t actually focus on the test chart?”
True. They included a ruler in the image but just focused one centimeter nearer than the Voigtlander.Kudos to reintroducing T-stops however! Ho many more stops does that lens deliver than the Voigtlander?

darrask commented on the blog post DxOmark: Canon Four Thirds versus Panasonic Four Thirds. 3 weeks, 5 days ago · View
“As usual with DxOmark tests keep in mind that they don’t take into account the resolution as variable for their scores.”
Wrong!
DxoMark normalizes results to 10 MP, so resolution is taken into account. But it is not a mark per se. -
darrask commented on the blog post E-M5 RAW has better Signal-to Noise ratio and Dynamic than the X PRO 1??? (says Techradar) 1 month, 1 week ago · View
The results are flawed somehow. They go against everything we know about EM5 image quality compared to its APS-C peers.
Remember too that there is the issue that the real EM5 ISO values much lower than indicated. -

Dear admin, It is good to know that this site is not going to get overwhelmed by fanatics like over at dp***** or at ph***-r*****, thanks! Nice grip.
“12Mpix back light illumination sensor, 460k LCD” what do you mean?
If the sensor is new, kudos to Panasonic for keeping it low to 12MP and break the megapixel race! Actually, for an entry-level even 10MP is enough, like in the Nikon 1 system.

Please, dear admin, do not fall in love with any camera or concept, I can’t help but think that this relationship would be very rewarding for you.
Sorry, I just read many reviews where reviewers say they’re falling in love all the time… with cameras. Poor them. -

First choice: LOWER RESOLUTION
With all the benefits that it implies: better dynamic range, pixel-level noise and image quality, smaller files, faster operation, lower power consumption, cheaper electronics!
Less nonsense, in a sense.

Indeed, DxOMark TAKES RESOLUTION INTO ACCOUNT. Please admin, stop repeating the contrary. DxOMark tests always trigger very emotional responses from all kind of people who have never even bothered to read and understand how DxOMark works. Let me just cite them: “All sensor scores reflect only the RAW sensor performance of a camera body.” I’d [...]

darrask commented on the blog post Nikon sensors as good as Micro Four Thirds? 7 months, 3 weeks ago · View
Makes sense. Nikon J1 has 10 MPs on a 8.8×13.2mm sensor, Pana GH3 has 16 MPs on a 13×17.3mm sensor, thus their respective pixel areas are comparable: 3.38 square micrometer for Nikon versus 3.75 for Panasonic. DxOMark does take resolution into account in their tests, that is the “print” parameter you see under the tab [...]

“dxo also concludes the LX5 sensor has a higher dynamic range than m43 or some aps-c sensors if I remember correctly.” Correct. LX5 has higher DR score than GF2 for example, because it starts at a much lower base ISO (70 vs 150 on GF2), and that score is based on base ISO. However DR [...]
