They probably mean jpg. I doubt they worked on another 12MP sensor.
I can easily see noise being better – noise and detail together would require some real work.

It’s a zoom. T-stops also have a range. they’re not quoting the fastest, but one point in the zoom range.

LOL! DUDE! I had the SAME conversation with a coworker yesterday. What do you want to shoot – everything! Tele or wide – Both! (and given his example, he wants 600mm+…) Wants to shoot in low light.. Wants cheap and small… Wants insane zoom… Wants impeccable sharpness…. Of course he’s looking at just canikon – [...]

Christ that’s a lot of glass. I wonder how bad that would affect transmission of an already dark lens.

I think that’s the default mode of CEOs and PR – how to be vague, yet stir interest. i.e. saying nothing to get people talking

It’s “easy” to make a 45 mm pancake, when the register distance is already so great.

Beomagi commented on the blog post Why Olympus didn’t succeed against Nikon and Canon… (Thom Hogan) 8 months, 1 week ago · View
Compact is definitely getting squeezed, but I’d say crop is squeezing full frame if anything. It may be manufacturer’s stubborn nature to keep prices high >$2500 for entry into (new) full frame cameras. Plus developments to these cameras are slow. More people seem satisfied with D7000s, d300s, 7d than 5dII’s and D700s – especially when [...]

In terms of cameras out there I agree it’s duopoly, but nowadays, whenever nikon or pentax sells a camera, Sony profits through sale of sensors. Would you still consider that a duopoly?

It happens. Working at the WTC site you see tourists with large SLRs all the time. It’s amazing how many have them now. Lot of em on auto though, or doing strange things like using flash to take a picture of the new wtc tower being built a block away on a sunny day. Almost [...]

Thom, aren’t you neglecting prototyping and at what stage a bigwig may cancel of change direction of a product? no matter which way you slice it, a company selling 3 other companies it’s sensor, will have more R&D funding than a company which can’t even get their gear to market. “The sensor is the most [...]

Well, you can go the route I did.
I got a 5d (classic), shaved the mirror, added a focusing screen and now make more use of my old takumars/OMs/nikons.
Nice when shooting at home or landscape – but the ep3 sticks with me daily.

Beomagi commented on the blog post (FT2) The first little Sigma lens rumor
8 months, 1 week ago · ViewNot at all – Sigma makes lenses that work under PDAF. Developing lenses and electronics for another system and AF type probably takes time. Also, why would they use the exact lens? the extra sensor area those lenses cover will only hinder m43. They’ll be looking at not onlny making the lenses shorter to benefit [...]

That makes no sense. Are you assuming the body is what’s expensive? If the 45mm is anything like the resolution of the 20mm, there’s nothing in canon’s court that can touch it unless you’re spending several hundred dollars more.

Old lens is larger, looks like different optics. Was designed for aps-c (1.5) sensors.
This new one is specific to micro four thirds – so 180 degrees corner to corner instead of ~120 or so.

Yes, no and no
Yes DOF is different – NO – light gathering is the same per unit area of the sensor. You’re gathering more light overall with a larger sensor, but per unit area on the sensor it’s the same. You need F1.4 to math full frame cameras in dof at 1/2 focal [...] -
