I wonder what you do in life. Because here we have a fine English landscape photographer, with *two* NEX 7, who has a total different opinion of the 18-55, and images to go with it, while you have only words: http://soundimageplus.blogspot.it/2012/03/more-nex-7-peak-district-images-more-on.html Seems that some of you are so steeped in the dSLR paradigm, that like [...]

What are you blabbering about? Learn English first. I don’t pretend to be an engineer like you, but I know that you don’t need to move whole groups in a barrel, but just a light focussing lens. That why they are called ‘internal focussing’. BTW we are expecting any time now Panny’s 10-35 and 35-100 [...]

So does that mean that *you don’t know* if there are m4/3 lenses able to resolve 16 Mpx? I bet they can, so that a rather weak argument. The advocates of 4/3 believe they have logic on their side, when all they do is to parade some rehoric pseudo-argument. Logic says that those lenses have [...]

Well, that’s your very private idea. However I you like it so much you can always dedicate yourself so video-making.
I doubt very much that such weighty lenses will ever find a way in m4/3.
Adapted lenses will not replace new lenses, whatever people who already own them would lead us to believe.

Panny never brought a line of HG and SHG glass to 4/3. Do you think that now they have success in their hands they will not churn out fast, light zooms for m4/3? Would then Oly respond by adapting lenses of another technological era? I find it difficult to believe it. They could, but how [...]

Anonymous are disgusting cowards.

“However, Olympus is committed to support its 4/3 users in the long run” They can always throw in a DSLR from time to time, like they do now. m4/3 is a *different* system, with an ethos of its own, fast primes, narrower focal range, at least for fast zooms. Fuji understands it very well, and [...]

Although I believe a hybrid AF might be brought in for the Pro, it will bring performance problems of its own. Please don’t tell me that the ‘pros’ at 4/3 have been swindled, because pro offset their gear expense in 3 yrs, or they are not pro at all, but rich amateurs. Personally, like many, [...]

You predict too much Raist. One month ago the E-M5 was but an ugly duckling in your parlance.
Then you were caught in an enbarassing stance, all over the Internet.
Now put your money where Your mouth is and buy one, ore be gone

I wished Olympus didn’t make any cameras… for two years, and concentrated on the Pro, possibly not very different from this one. And in making lenses for both. But of course it won’t happen, Oly needs to move product: Pens, let’s hope not as many and schizophrenic like the 3 gen. Olympus can you slow [...]

Frankly if you look at the Chinese samples provided here, you will notice one stop difference after 3200. That stop difference is more than compensate by the *4* stop difference provided by IBIS. Honestly, I am looking for someone to explain when and where I should use 12800. There is another factor: all the X [...]

+ 1. In fact the E-M5 is quite impressive by past standards. And up to 3200 it looks even sharper.
Strangely, for a camera without the AA filter the X Pro 1 needs some sharpening. -

I was referring to what Valentin found. No improvement over the E-P3 at base ISO. So what is Oly exactly selling? BTW I am pretty sure that even FF is on a curve of diminishing returns. What is the advantage of ever increasing files if pixel sharpness doesn’t improve. Possibly the E-M5 is a good [...]

I think the rationale is that ‘cropped’ sensors are hitting a limits to growth wall. By increasing pixel density you get better performance at high ISO, but you are not necessarily getting more performance at low ISO. That was the original reason for changing the base ISO. In theory all sensors could hit a ceiling. [...]

I was unable to make head or tails of your sample, perhaps my look was too quick. However it is perfectly possible that a higher density sensor gives better results at high ISO, and slightly worse at base ISO. It depends from the physics of read noise, which to me is still a mystery, but [...]

I am not sure I understand, Mr. Sama. Are you contending that there is no resolution advantage from the 12 Mpx to the 16 Mpx Oly sensor? Do you mean per pixel sharpness? Is it at base ISO or all the way up? If I get it well that might mean that Oly was correct [...]

You can now check the comparison samples at DPR. Let me remind that the only way to compare Dynamic Range is in Jpeg. Resolution to can be checked through the comparometer there. Seems to me that it is on an equal footing to the NEX-5, so that the gap with APS is bridged. Good news! [...]

This reminds that I have only two cheap native lenses the 17/2.8 and the new kit lens for the E-P2. All the rest is legacy or 4/3. So my investment was minimal, which is nice in the face of the absurd depreciation. Lagging technology is also my philosophy. I believe we’ll reach soon the limits [...]

I got an E-P2 from SRS Microsystems in the UK for 250 EU, 3 months ago. It was described as ‘unit for display’, but I am sure they do money by splitting the kit. It was in pristine condition, so v. happy. When I discovered that it was a fast focusser with the new lenses, [...]
