Help -> Ebay links test.
Need your help once again. We have seen that ebay links were one of the main cause of slow page loading. We now have rewritten the scrript and need you help for a check.
The new script recognizes your OS language (Windows-MAC-Linux operative system language) and should link you to the right ebay page from your country. Please check if it really works. Let me also know if the search string works well or if I should change it. If you also have ideas for more search terms let me know
The script works for: Austria-Australia-Belgium-Canada-Suisse-Germany-Spain-France-Ireland-Italy-Holland-UK-US. If you are not from one of those countries you will be redirected to Ebay.com
The ebay links are on the left sidebar. But I also posted them here:

Thanks for the fast reaction! Keep up good work.

3 years ago |How about directing other countries straight to global.ebay.com?
admin
3 years ago |Hi Alfons!
I thought to have direct links to detailled stuff would be more useful for you. That’s the idea.

I’m sorry, but begging your visitors to buy stuff from amazon/bay etc is not only irritating but utterly unprofessional from a website that wants to be credited as a respected/relevant source of news/rumors.
I realise that you want to make money from this site, however slapping adverts in the users face is NOT going to encourage them to buy, it’ll simply annoy them and stop them from coming back.
Please, strip the ads off the front page, then have a ‘deals’ section. Then if the user wasn’t to buy from you, they can and will.
Adding a ‘news’ story that amazon has product in stock (then providing a link that gives you money) looks truly awful.
I’m not saying this to be a troll. It’s the honest truth, and I’ve heard people saying the same thing about this specific site around the internet. (check the Wired/engaget blogs and comments)
Basically, if you want to be taken seriously, stop making this website look like a spam site. Get a good designer to re-do your layout. If you cant do that use a good CMS and clean theme (lots are available for wordpress, drupal etc for free) This should only take an afternoon..
I’d be happy to help you out if you’re stuck..
Cheers

I found an error…does it work now?

3 years ago |Hello.
If it is supposed that the links redirect to local ebay sites, it doesn’t work for Spain. All the links leads to ebay.com except this one of zeiss lenses, that leads to ebay.uk
It seems the home page loads a bit faster than before.
Cheers

Dont want to put down the work you’re doing here, its fantastic! keep it up!
I think a great example of how to do it right is macrumors.com. It is probably one of the biggest rumor sites on the internet and I think it’s excellent. It has very little advertising and makes a real effort to grow/push its forums. I know it does very well, because the guy running it was able to quit his job and take it up full time. This proves that a little (well placed) advertising goes a very long way…
Thanks for setting up a poll, hope everyone votes
Cheers

3 years ago |Just tried the eBay links.
I am in Canada but am connected to the US eBay.
I avoid buying from the US due to all the headaches with shipping delays, brokerage fees etc. A link to eBay.ca would be nice but I’m not planning on selling any of my m43 equipment just yet

3 years ago |Leica Lenses eBay link is actually just Leica eBay link.
By the way, I noticed when testing the link that someone is offering eight new Leica M9s at $2900 each. No eBay feedback record. I imagine he’s also offering the Eiffel Tower elsewhere on eBay at a discount too.
