2 years ago |Seems like someone who has not seen the photos of this camera…. the photos are awful, blurry as hell/lack of dynamic range/etc S95/LX5 get better still images, GET NEX or M43 is you want a small camera

2 years ago |What pictures are you talking about? The ones Fuji is displaying on their X100 product site? Those look great! And given the fact there are no solid reviews yet, I am sticking with the assumption that an APS-C camera with a lens that matches the sensor in design will perform better than my E-PL1 with Panasonic’s 20mm I currently use.
Besides, I already own an E-PL1 and a Canon S90. The X100 is fascinating, because I can set aperture and exposure time and anything else directly through mechanical dials and the viewfinder is a killer feature.
If I see good reviews once the camera is available in Europe, I will most likely buy it. Along with the accessories.

2 years ago |Yeah, man, you got it. This is miles closer to “it” than anything else released in the last 3 years… even if it takes crappy photos it still gotta be a delight to use.
John
2 years ago |looks super deluxe! but he seemed to have some trouble there switching modes on the viewfinder..

2 years ago |Yeah, since they have to fit the viewfinder above the LCD screen, it’s gotta be bigger than the EP’s and GF’s we’re accustomed to seeing.

2 years ago |no, please no tilt screen. no digital gimmicks for this camera series thanks.
interchangeable lenses – yes! though this is a messy can of worms for fuji to open up… hopefully they have some genius engineers working on it now.

??? digital gimmicks? Very useful mechanical screen! hav u ever seen a nex5?
inteliboy
2 years ago |yes, and it looks & operates like a computer or games console.
the x100 is the antithesis of what digital has turned photography into.
Mr. Reeee
2 years ago |Gee, if an articulated LCD is off-limits, then why would a NostalgiaCam have an LCD at all? LCDs are so… so… digital!
Jules
2 years ago |Interchangeable lenses? Unless I understood wrong, the viewfinder of that camera is not made to support different FoV.
What you want is a totally different beast with comparable styling.
inteliboy
2 years ago |Point taken.
But to elaborate…
Articulated LCD’s are helpful when shooting video or perhaps also when shooting stills via an lcd screen – neither of which seems like a logical priority for a camera that’s all about the viewfinder. Shooting from a screen, personally, I can’t stand, not only does it feel absolutely ridiculous, but you instantly step into the casual blasé nature of point & shoots – may as well use my camera phone.
Also, the NEX 5 looks like a damn spaceship. This is fine, and is great for photography to push forward with new ideas & designs. But there are many many photographers who have been waiting more then a decade for digital cameras to start looking and feeling like, well, cameras. A similar “digital” trend happened with watches in the 80′s, we’re going through the exact same thing with cameras now.

2 years ago |Here’s a couple of size comparisons. Not sure how accurate they are, but it gives a good idea.
It’s a little taller than EP & GF, but about the same depth including the lens. Slightly shorter than an M9.

Ok, waiting for the black version then.
And I think Fuji made it pretty clear that the sensor/lens/viewfinder is optimized as a combo. Making it an interchangeable lens camera would only add size and complicate the viewfinder pairing to the various lenses.
And in regards to anybody wanting this particular camera to have an articulated screen… well, you kinda missed the point?
MikeS
2 years ago |I’m not convinced that this sensor/lens/viewfinder optimization isn’t just Fuji’s marketing jargon put out there to dodge the fact that they don’t have the wherewithal to produce a line of interchangeable lenses.
While I appreciate the aesthetic that Fuji is bringing back with this camera, its high price and limited flexibility ensure that I won’t be purchasing one any time soon. However, I really hope that Olympus is taking note, because they could make a killing if they released an X100-like camera along with their premium m4/3 lenses. The XZ-1 shows that they are capable of seeing the appeal of competing manufacturers’ products (LX3/5, S90/95) and subsequently blowing them away with their own.

2 years ago |Olympus and Panasonic just need a built in EVFs (rangefinder style) and their MFT cameras would be set. Better low light photos would be great too.
Come on guys – you can do it!
hd72
2 years ago |According to Fuji’s website, the widest portion of the lens is inside the camera, and it comes within a few millimeters of the sensor. Probably a little easier to accept or disprove than just marketing jargon.
MikeS
2 years ago |It’s the same deal with any given p&s, but those aren’t marketed on the basis of “optimization” or implied component synergy.

2 years ago |I know – as much as we all want (me especially!) a built-in viewfinder in addition to a nice 3″ LCD, seeing it happen kinda turns my stomach. I’m hoping the problem here is the optical viewfinder needs clearance on the front of the camera. Maybe an EVF (and a smaller rear LCD) can fit into a less bulky package without sacrificing space for buttons. Or maybe I’m just expecting too much in a small camera.

2 years ago |Well its a really Great Cam und the Lens Sems to be well suited( 35mm F2).
For all those sreaming for liveview, tilting screen whatever: this cam is not aimed at the gadget crowed. It’s a photographers cam, it has the Leica M type of artist in mind. All it’s needed is A and M mode. It even has AF which is not necessary needed.
And what do I need the LCD for ? Looking at the photo taken and checking the histogramm.

2 years ago |I was totally on board and never said a bad word about the X100 until I realized that it has IMITATION leather. All my cameras have genuine calf leather. Total dealbreaker.
Oh, and the image quality of the sample images was so bad it made my eyes bleed. I almost fell down the stairs trying to run away from the images with my view clouded by blood (which was also slippery—I may have to sue Fuji). Luckily my wife had the presence of mind to run along in front of me with a video dslr (i’m not going to mention the brand, because i want you to take this message very seriously and not think i’m an astroturfer or anything, not that there are ever any astroturfers on sites describing new products) and record my ordeal. She’s out trying to sell the footage now and I’m typing blindly, hoping that I’m delivering my important warning at http://www.43rumors.com instead of http://www.hot-n-wet.com, which was the last thing I clicked on before the Fuji X100 destroyed my eyesight.
Oh, yeah, and I almost forgot to mention that the price is almost exactly twice what it’s worth. (Of course, if this is http://www.hot-n-wet.com, the same thing applies to your so-called products.)
Anyway, that about wraps it up: I was a huge fan, then suddenly I came to my senses and realized that no one would ever want this camera. I am not being paid to say this but if I were I would add code #106354 as verification.
But I’m not. It makes perfect sense to come here to complain about this horrible camera. And so I stand in solidarity with all the fine people complaining about the heinous X100. We are not a bunch of moronic a**holes and our pertinent messages all make about as much sense as this concise posting. Which is a lot.

2 years ago |I would suggest you wait for some samples from a production model made by a real photographer. Also, they explained very well why they chose imitation vs real leather.
zorg
2 years ago |I apologize for being sarcastic in the above post. It did not occur to me that some would take it seriously. I was attempting (evidently poorly) to lampoon the silly negative messages I see about the X100. My eyeballs did not bleed, my wife is not selling footage of my eyeballs bleeding, I made up the name http://www.hot-n-wet.com, although there may be such a place, I would have no idea whether any camera’s covering is leather or imitation (I would not really know how to tell), and I can’t understand AT ALL why people who claim to dislike the camera post so much about it.
pisto
2 years ago |Just read on http://www.dslrmagazine.com that the use of “not real” leather is related to the word “vulcanite”, so typical of classic Leicas.
I do not want to, but everytime I read about this camera, I get anxious. Guess I am the kind of people that always wanted a Leica M but never could justify the expense.

2 years ago |Those image samples on CNET are shocking. In the one with the pool balls I can’t even work out which is meant to be in focus. The number 14 seems closest but it is still fury. The samples on the Fuji site are much much better. It will be good to see more sites post samples to see what it is really like. Based on the CNET images I wouldn’t touch it for $600 – but it could be the result of poorly taken images and that ‘zoom-it’ thing they use.

2 years ago |The official samples look OK, if not stunning. But, has anybody heard anything new about the full press (auto focus+shutter) lag? In some videos it has seemed unbearable slow.
So, “azn”, bewere, it might actually be a pain to use due to its slowness.

2 years ago |Great looking camera from FujiFilm!!! This is the camera all the M43 users are whining about & want for the next “pro M43″ body. I see that many of us have a wish list…maybe just summit a drawing of what the next Pro camera should look like & the 43 companies “will” keep in mind of what to make
. But patent the drawing first?!?
Like most say…the best camera is the one that is with you all the time!

2 years ago |Meanwhile, this poster (who has invested in GF1 + 20mm 1.7, 14-45, Panaleica 45, 14mm 2.8, SLR Magic 35mm, SLR Magic Toylens 25mm 1.4) still waits for anything significant to happen in the m43 world…
I think I’ll get this camera…
Mike
2 years ago |Why? If you have a GF-1 with the 20mm you have a compact, good looking system with similar focal length, depth of field and light sensitivity. But you can change lenses. Why would you buy the Fuji?

2 years ago |All I can say after viewing the unboxing video is holy @#$@ Fuji – talk about over packaging your product. All I can see is those 3 boxes going to the landfill. If you want to make it upscale go go with the price then provide 1 nice and sturdy reusable box rather than 3 crappy throw in the trash/recycling bin ones.
Other than that the camera looks very nice.
