Fuji doesn’t join MicroFourThirds and makes their own perfect PEN :)

Let me say this: “Damn that is a cool camera!”. Fuji just announced the FinePix X100, a rangefinderstyled 12.3MP APS-C-based camera with Hybrid Viewfinder! The “Hybrid Viewfinder that enables users to toggle between optical and electronic viewfinders and display intricate shooting information right into the OVF” (Source: Engadget). That’s what I call “Innovation”! I hope Olympus and/or Panasonic will show us a similar concept soon (Hey Olympus, wouldn’t that be a perfect PEN? You did awesome rangfindercameras in the past like the Olympus RC (Click here to see the camera design on eBay!). The bad news is that it uses a fixed 23mm f/2.0 lens (The lens itself is gorgeous). There is no price indication yet but you can bet that that camera will be a lot cheaper than the direct competitor the Leica X1 ($1.995 at Amazon)!. The FinePix X100 will be in Stock by early 2011.
P.S: Again, can someone explain me why Fuji uses a fixed lens? Why not make it interchangeable???

2 years ago |This is the most lustworthy camera I have ever seen. (I’m not including Leica’s because those are way to expensive.)
Surely the MSRP will be over a grand, but should be worth it for those who are looking for this type of camera.

2 years ago |I am… I still use my Epson R-D1s digital rangefinder but it is definitely aging. I’m willing to give $1200 for it, hoping more around $900, and dreaming at $700.

2 years ago |Actually, it’s rumored to be at around 1700 Euro. Look at the build quality of the thing. Alone that high quality metal body will make it really expensive. It will be cheaper than a Leica, but also in that price range.
Let’s not get carried away here. This thing is not in the market segment MFT is playing in.

2 years ago |This is one of the most exiting things I’ve seen in photography in a while.
Leicas have always been lustworthy, but most people really don’t spend $8000 on a street/social camera unless they have big bucks.
This can bring some of that look & feel and a much better price.
My L1 & Oly 25 combo will be missed… a little. I only use it as a discrete cam when we go places and I don’t want to take the E3 or 520 and look all “photographer” and stuff. Like I just bought an SLR and need to use it at Chuk-e-cheese. (You know who we’re talking about.)
This should light a fire in the Photography industry!

2 years ago |This looks like a great step forward.
I think Leica and Olympus/Pana (MFT crew) better get on something like this.
a new PEN with hybrid vf would be absolute gold.
or we could mod this to fit mft mount!

2 years ago |Am I the only one who isn’t excited about this at all. I will take my E-P2 over this any day. It’s more compact, the panny 1.7 is probably the better lens, I can change lenses, and despite the nay-sayers, the EVF does everything for me that the OVF on my D90 did. I think people who buy this really have to admit that they are buying it just for the looks.

2 years ago |It might be a good camera, and it’s a very important marketing step, in order to push Oly/Pany doing the same thing.
But it’s a plagiat! it looks like exactly a Leica!
I hope Pany and Oly will make such a same camera but with more clever, modern and creative design.

2 years ago |nothing in photokina will be more interesting and represent more good news to me than X100. Its gorgeous retro-look aside, the viewfinder, 35mm-equivalent f2 lens are exactly what i am hoping for. unless future reviews are adverse, or the nikon EVIL materialise, i am really looking forward to put my hands on one of them.
