(FT5) Tomorrow Leica will announce that they won’t join the MFT world

.
With the release of the X1, Leica has chosen to go its own way by not joining the MicroFourThirds technology. The X1 will use a new developed APS-C sensor and a ixed lens (Sorry, no interchangeable lens mount!). Anyway, Leica will keep working with Panasonic on new MicroFourThirds lenses.
Tomorrow (9am London time) you can follow the live presentation here: http://www.webcasts.com/mdlk001/090909b/

September 8, 2009 |Hi,
since the aperture on the X1 is apparently being controlled by the dial on the corner of the top plate, and that dial goes from 2.8-16 (and has an “A” setting, as well), i highly doubt that the lens is interchangeable, since this would mean that no future “X-mount” lenses could be faster than 2.8. Even slower lenses would be impractical using this dial.
Apart from this, I also don’t see a lens release button anywhere on the two pictures that we have so far. Unless, of course, they are re-introducing the screw mount
But we’ll see tomorrow

September 8, 2009 |There are a lot of reasons Leica would not make a m4/3 mount and the biggest reason IMO is that people could stick other lenses on the bodies and Leica could not have the whole niche to itself. I bet Leica felt some pain after Voigtlander and Zeiss started pumping out M mount lenses. Makes sense for Leica to play it small and just make m4/3 lenses now and the X1, though fearfull the price probably will be, can be their own little corner all to themselfs, until someone else comes along and does it for a fifth of the price.

September 8, 2009 |Thought the X1 had a non-interchangeable lens? That’s what everything I’ve seen has indicated. So, no lens mount.
