This seems to answer a few of the remaining questions … If G10 gets a 720p video and a 450 USD/EUR price, it’s going against NX-10, D3000 and other entry level ILCs.
If you look closely at the side by side comparison shot I see a distinct difference in the size of the EVF on the G10.
Other than that seems pretty much as I predicted a warmed over G1 maybe some processing improvements, better Iso performance And please tell me they fixed the strap lug issue.
@neilm – there were some photos available yesterday which show the dedicated video mode on the top of the camera now. It appears that the button was replaced with the dial, which was probably a nice move. I could see how one might accidentally press the button movie button if you were holding it with your right hand only.
What’s so exciting about these cameras? Just more of the same, Who is going to buy a camera that can come in blue, bordeaux, bordeaux ????? pink, come on, Where is Olympus E5 admin?
Hopefully Panasonic actually intends to have a retail presence with these cameras in the US. I’d like to handle one of these to see how I like the rear wheel as opposed to the front one on the G1. I frequently turn the one on my G1 inadvertently but I can see how I could do the same with the rear-mounted wheel as it’s almost exactly where I would place my thumb naturally.
Come to think of it, I’d like to try out the EVF on the G10. I use the EVF most of the time and wonder if the lower resolution would be a deal-breaker or not.
E5 is still a FourThirds (hence still DSLR with mirror, pentaprism, small viewfinder and as bulky size as APS-C cameras). Sorry, but I cannot really see the Fourd Thirds (NOT Micro Four Thirds!) advantage vs. APS-C systems.
Nooooo! Panasonic if you are reading this please put the wheel back on the front where it belongs!!!! Thank you for staying with the G1/GH1 body style as it is the far more useful design IMO. Please make some pro quality glass for the m43 system. A 50-100mm f2 would be outstanding and a 300mm f2.8 would have wildlife shooters the world over flocking to your system. Please put some quality switches on the top of the camera (see Nikon cameras) as the ones you currently have feel like they would break off if you sneeze to hard.
Hm…same (uninspiring) design, same rubber skin. At least I’m sure the lugs won’t fall off like on lots of GH1 models.
I’m looking forward to the new features and hopefully better jpeg engine although I’m disappointed the higher end model G2 is not further differentiated (higher-quality body etc.).
To all the people complaining about the G10: it’s the entry level camera meant for those buying their first ILC instead of a G11 or a LX3. The more people buy it, the more will buy other m43 products ( such as lenses ) and the more prices of that other equipment is going to go down. So it’s good for all of us m43 enthusiasts ( and if you weren’t you wouldn’t read a rumor site ), Panasonic just NEEDS to make the price low enough ( and they aren’t known for that ).
I personally will not buy a G10, I like E-PL1 more, but more cheaper bodies can do a system no harm.
The next step would be for Olympus to make a G10/G2/GH1 style body and discontinue their E-4xx line.
@Miroslav: “To all the people complaining about the G10: it’s the entry level camera meant for those buying their first ILC instead of a G11 or a LX3.“
For god’s sake! Isn’t the GF1 enough entry level for those buying their first ILC instead of a G11 or a LX3? Definitely cheaper than G10, same sensor, minor differences in IQ, but almost as small as G11/LX3!
No, GF1 is not enough entry level, especially not at that price level. m43 system needs a 400-500 euro DSLR lookalike to fight it out with those cheap Canons EOSes, Nikons DXXXs and now a Samsung NX10. GF1 is too expensive for people looking for a sub 500 euro ILC. And I hope Panasonic will make a GF10 too, a competitor to E-PL1.

2 years ago |@neilm There is a dedicated record button, its positioned on the top of the camera (on the G2 at least)

Then maybe the naming is not a coincidence either (G10 vs NX-10).

Pity if I guessed.

2 years ago |Bye-bye tiltable LCD? Bye-by high resolution EVF? Bye-bye G10!
Please give me just 1 (one) reason to prefer G10 with no tiltable screen and crap EVF over GF1.
Or (if G10 has really better sensor than GF1) not to wait for GF2.
