(FT5) UPDATED: New Olympus teaser….for a new website :(
Olympus Malaysia launched a new website with the following teaser: http://www.evolve.com.my/.
But CNET Asia learned that this is not a teaser for a new product announcement:”We got back to Olympus Singapore which told CNET Asia that the microsite is just part of the company’s marketing scheme for the already-announced E-PL1 Micro Four Thirds camera. Also, no new dSLRs are expected on February 28.”

3 years ago |At last some good news on the 4/3 front. If I’m not mistaken, the E-3 replacement has been refrred to in terms of revolution, not merely evolution. This teaser is probably for an E-xxx model with the E-5 to follow hopefully a little while later.

Now let’s just hope Olympus can keep up with the demand. I’ve heard suppliers mention that they are bad at keeping their suppliers well stocked….and that Olympus is “difficult” to work with.

I’m not going to bet because I don’t have any info that tells me whether Olympus will or won’t release a new camera (though with PMA coming, there’s not much risk to guess that they have something new coming). However, I do know that a random page on a non-Olympus site is very far from what you wrote (“UPDATE5: The link to the official Olympus website”).
If you care about the reputation and credibility of this site, you should only use FT5 rating when you have solid information from a known and trusted source. Is this the case here?

3 years ago |One more thing – have you ever, once, saw a teaser for a camera release on anything other the official website of a camera brand? I don’t recall one, and don’t see Olympus being the first to do so. Why not drive people to their own website? It makes a lot more sense and is likely to be much more believable. This one smells hoax from miles.

3 years ago |Neither the Olympus E-4 or E-40 I think, but the biggest bang for the bucks.
I think it’s another volume seller, which means a merger of the E-420/E-520/E-620 models.
Those will be split into two new models, all with IBIS on board, name them E-540 & E-640 and let them use the same battery grip HLD-5. E-540 will be using the thinner BLS-1 battery as well.
Both with 720p video and xD memory replaced with SDXC.
I think that with the E-450 so is the E-4xx series finally gone, since it’s substituted with m4/3. Or is the title “world’s smallest DSLR” still important? If so, a retrofit of IBIS into an E-440 could take place, but I doubt it. Let the m4/3 play the worlds smallest EVIL, while it lasts. (until the rumoured Nikon 1″ EVIL coming.)
In eleven days we’ll know, maybe in 10 days, since the official leak comes within 24 hours of the deadline.

My guess is that we will see the announcement tomorrow or Friday.

Olympus has done viral before so it’s not that far fetched. we might see the camera this PMA anyway… the site doesnt say that the camera will only be announced once the countdown is finished, does it? so its possible we’ll see the actual cam on PMA and the detailed site on Feb 28/March 1.
