(FT5) HOT! Olympus E-5 to be announced on September 14. New E-P2 kit and new MFT lenses on Tuesday (August 31)

UPDATED: I have no doubts anymore. The new Olympus E-5 will be announced on September 14. It has 12Megapixel, two more than the “older” E-3. It has the new TruePic 5 engine for better detail, 720p hd video at 30p, 11 pt af, 920k dot res lcd, 3 inches, art filters and a mic jack.
Tomorrow (August 31) a special Olympus E-P2 kit will be announced + two new MicroFourThirds lenses!
Expect me to post some specs as soon as I get some confirmations from other sources. Stay tuned!!!

2 years ago |That may be true. I may be a tech junkie, but my US money is green like everyone else’s.

2 years ago |I have absolutely no doubt that most of the posters on here are better photographers than I am. The E-30 was my first SLR, and I really like the DSLR speed in being able to quickly capture shots that I was not able to do so before on various Olympus “prosumer” point-and-shoot cameras.
I am not too interested in going backwards to a Pen and losing the speed that I have just come to greatly appreciate in a DSLR, although I would not mind a Pen as a backup secondary camera. Over time mirrorless cameras will improve in speed, but I do not think mirrorless cameras are there yet.
I am learning more professional control features, and hope to continue to do so while also taking sports photos and beginning to work some in video.
I would prefer a camera with significantly better features than my now 18-month old E-30 as well as full HD video. Otherwise, I would have to look at carrying two cameras such as an E-30 plus a Panasonic GH-2 to begin learning about video use. For $2K USD, Olympus should be able to include plenty of processing, memory buffers, and bus bandwidth to handle the speed demands for write times and full HD video.

2 years ago |I am only implying that US money is green-colored. A common saying in the US is that one person’s dollar is just as green as another person’s dollar, meaning that each person has the same chance to vote with his or her buying decision. The saying doesn’t translate as well to other countries with multi-colored paper currency.

2 years ago |18 months old isn’t old. Your E30 is still very capable. It will be until the shutter dies.

2 years ago |I agree. I love my E-30, but I wanted to add full HD video and weather sealing.
One of my other hobbies is sailing, and I am very hesitant about taking the E-30 on an off-shore sailing trip with all the salt and moisture in the air.
Also, I have been really careful about using the E-30 to take football game pictures in the pouring rain.

2 years ago |I do print a lot actually.
80% 16x20s, the rest is 11x14s and a few 8x10s and 20x30s.
What that has to do w/price competition?
Don’t want argument but your post has the most techie stuff on this page

2 years ago |The second Dan who did not think we all print was different from the first Dan (me) who posted what would motivate me to buy a camera! Perhaps I should have entered a different name! As for me, I print all the time and the things I said would motivate me to buy a new body are all to do with what I’d want to make my prints better.

2 years ago |This is what I wrote: Wonder how many of you print,… I didn’t imply: “who did not think we all print”. Suggest you take in exactly what I said before getting on your high horse.
Anyway, this is getting out of hand. The rumors on this site are exactly that. RUMORS. Makes me wonder how much people will believe these days. Maybe I should re-evaluate my marketing strategy. Although rumors are nice they have the power to sway people the wrong and sometimes right ways. The sheer amount of negative feedback on this “rumor” is somewhat of a joke.
Hey, did you hear they are building a Walmart on the moon? Pretty cool huh! Think I’ll fuel my rocket ship up and pick up an E6 while I’m there. Did you hear they are only selling them on the moon. That’s why they tested the E3 in outer space.
Note to admin. How about you verify some of your sources. The information coming out of this site is so broken. You are starting to make yourself look like a fool. No offense. Read around. Suggest you take a seat and really digest the information you have before leading people on. Hit counts are one thing but all this crap is getting old.

2 years ago |My apologies more misreading you. Your are correct, and I made an assumption that differs from the words that you wrote. Sorry.
I agree about the rumors bit. To me, something about the listed specs seems off for an E-3 replacement, reads more like an E-30 replacement, but there could be more features we don’t know about or the 12mp could be of substantially higher quality than that of the E-30/E-620 sensor. I enjoy the speculation though and it’s fun to discuss. I think the domain name of the site puts things into proper context.

2 years ago |Cool, I’m sorry if I hurt anyone’s feelings, wasn’t my intention, just expressed my concerns/opinions.
I think I read, wrote enough.. Now I go and shoot a little and hopefully by the time I’ll finish transferring my 7d files we’ll even have some photos of the E5.
Best Regards.

This. This is Oly’s weak spot, and, considering the excellent lenses they produce, is the most important thing they have yet to offer. At this point, Nikon/Canon are WAY ahead when it comes to low-light shooting.
