(FT5) HOT! New Noktor HyperPrime Lens 50mm f/0.95 for MicroFourThirds!
UPDATE5: Just received an email form the company: “Thanks for the message. The company is very real. There are a couple photographers with lenses now, so there will be a lot more images and footage along with the product launch next month. The info from google’s cache is incorrect. It was placeholder text while the site was developed. The main corrections are 480g weight and 23° Angle of View.
Goals? Develop and sell the fastest lens possible
”
Noktor will launch the fastest Lens for Micro 4/3rds on March 1st! They also have some image samples here: http://twitter.com/noktor. It is a dedicated MicroFourThirds lens! No Adapter needed!
UPDATE4: The main reason why I gave the FT5 value (which means there is a 90% the rumor is true) is that the website uses the official MicroFourThirds logo. The logo is trademarked and nobody can use it without the permission from Olympus/Panasonic!
UPDATE3: Message to the Noktor company: Can you contact me at 43rumors@gmail.com? Have some questions for you! Thanks
UPDATE2: New sample image here: http://noktor.com/stills/noktor_2.jpg
UPDATE: A new tweet form the company says: “Yes, it will be priced MUCH lower than the Noctilux
”
Google cache saved this data about the lens:
With a maximum aperture of F/0.95, the Noktor Hyperprime is the fastest lens designed for Micro Four Thirds cameras. At open aperture, the lens renders pictures and video with extreme shallow depth of field for a unique aesthetic.
Extreme Low-light Shooting
In low-light photography and cinematography, the lens exceeds the perception of the human eye. From nightscapes to campfires, now you can shoot in situations that are often impossible to capture with a normal lens.

I hope this is not just some Oriental junk.
Naming the product after Voigtländer Nokton is quite cheap move…
If the lens is m4/3 dedicated, it might be very small in size
admin
2 years ago |Definitely dedicated
M43Photo
2 years ago |If the picture is indeed correct, then it is hardly a small lens. It looks like it is slightly wider than the mount, which makes the overall size about the same as the Pana-Leica 45mm macro prime.
Ok, for a 50mm f/0.95, that is still not very large, but hardly compact, either.
I’m guessing that the lens has manual aperture, and manual focussing. I doubt that they were able to make these things automatic according to the Micro Four Thirds specs.

2 years ago |I’d say this is a FAKE… let me be the first to presume that any company link that takes you to a twitter page, and then a twitter page (with ONE post) that takes you to some other obscure image link… is totally false and some douchebag’s prank!
If you check the WHOIS database on any Domain Register, you’d find the site was created just a few months ago (Sept. 2009)… and a link of such magnitude would have taken longer in R&D especially with Micro 4/3 being so new…
Don’t be fooled by this foolishness!
Thom Jensen
2 years ago |“sorry, not a “link” of such magnitude… but a LENS of such specification”…
Come on people… I know this is a rumor site, but pro-photographers (or anyone calling themselves one) should have better common sense than to believe this dribble for even a second!

2 years ago |The two sample images are low resolution, which is a pity:
http://noktor.com/stills/noktor_1.jpg at 507×570
http://noktor.com/stills/noktor_2.jpg at 750×563
However, a quick browse through Google cache reveals many of Noktor’s currently-hidden pages (Products, Gallery, Dealers, About Noktor, Contact Us, etc) plus links to:

http://vimeo.com/noktor
Looking forward to some Vimeo video samples shot with this lens. I wonder if it’ll put Panasonic’s 20/1.7 in its place!…

I hope that won’t obliterate the fact that there is REAL demand for high quality single focal lens with normal max apertures
seems that we only get the two extremes , pancakes and lenses like that
Both won’t do much to gain popularity over zooms

Mike
2 years ago |If this is mFT dedicated lens then the angle of view couldn’t be 46.° That stands for normal lens (50mm) in 35mm format. The mFT lenses are not developed for 35mm format just for four thirds sensors only. So angle of view have to be approx. a half of 46°. Anyway it’s ranked FT5 so this gonna be ideal portrait lens (100mm), for those who like razor thin DOF and manual focusing
. Maybe Noktor is brand new lens manufacturer, but I never heard about that. Btw is Noktor a Voigtländer trade mark?

2 years ago |even if it were true it is useless on a m4/3 without a split screen focus or rangefinder focus system. framing so tight with f0.95 makes handheld work impossible even with magnified focus; even breathing throws everything out of focus. high speed primes are made for snapshot/handheld/ work, otherwise one could use a tripod, trow in some lights and maybe stage the whole thing. what would be the point!
using it for video (“cinematography”) would involve the best focus puller with the appropriate daily fee.
I really would like to see that on a AF lens, around 25-35 mm.
Adam Maas
2 years ago |Actually misu, fast lenses are remarkably easy to focus on m43. No need for an RF system or split prism, a high-resolution EVF is superior for focusing accuracy and speed.
This lens is most likely a C mount 50/0.95 transplanted into a m43 mount with aperture control. Shouldn’t be too expensive, likely will be reasonably good aside from the edges.

2 years ago |Admin, sorry to say but this is kind of a discredit to your FT ranking system.
Obviously it’s a “new source” and with such little information backing it… I can’t see why it’s an FT5.
As others have said, anyone can make a twitter page, and register a domain with a single image. In fact if you want another “FT5″ give me something fancy to “announce” and I’ll make you one just like it.
What company would link to it’s twitter page as it’s information source?
Not even an “about us” on their website?
Maybe the maker of the website will add it soon after reading such comments, but what kind of company would make their “big announcement” and not even think about having such information already setup before going live?
FT2 at best…
Sam Bennett
2 years ago |It isn’t necessarily a “fake”, but it is most certainly a Senko 50mm f/0.95. Likely it means that they’re taking these lenses and putting an MFT mount on it. Not a bad idea, really – but you can do the same thing by buying your own C-Mount and Senko, with the added benefit of being able to mount other C-Mount lenses in the future.
PhotoRumors Admin
2 years ago |This is very interesting, I may get a m4/3 camera after all
I am curious if they will make this lens available in other mounts (M, F)? Admin, please ask them that if you get in touch with them.
Thanks.

2 years ago |Years of shooting 35mm film may have us all thinking this is a fast normal lens, but don’t forget the 2x crop factor with Micro 4/3. An ultra fast 100mm equivalent may be useful for certain applications, but I’m not clamoring for one if the only means of judging such shallow focus is with an electronic finder.

About Noktor
The Need for Speed
With Canon and Nikon stopping production on their ultra fast lenses years ago, Leica offered the only (and expensive) option. Noktor was started in response to this limited selection of fast lenses for photography and cinematography. Our goal is to enable new creative possibilities by creating high quality lenses for photographers and filmmakers interested in low-light shooting.

April fools day
2 years ago |Hard to believe that any other vendor will be invited to the Micro Four Thirds. Both Olympus and Panasonic keep their gatets quite locked to others. It wouldn’t surprise me, if they also earlier have turned down some applicants.
But some vendors have got the blessings, however only Voigtlander comes to my mind. I would like to see Metz, Leica, and some more lens makers on board. I don’t count Samyang though, but would like to see them getting the lens chip to have their lens coded.
P.S. Change the rating to (FT1) for this thread.
admin
2 years ago |The website clearly shows the original MicroFourThirds logo. The logo is trademarked. I don’t believe the company is going to make a joke using that logo…would you risk a legal disput with Panasonic/Olympus just for fun?
HD Stock footage
2 years ago |If they are doing this as a hoax…. then they would not use real names, phone etc…. so surely they would have no worries using a copyrighted logo?
admin
2 years ago |Once you register a domain they can have your data. No problem even if the whois is “masked”.
Ab
2 years ago |Careful, they have changed the colour of the M43 logo, a basic branding error that would not have been approved by the Marketing departments of Olympus / Panasonic / m43. You cannot just put your colours into an independent logo, they would have been asked to change it back. So unfortunately i would have to call this one faked.
Cheers

2 years ago |The only things “FT5″ about this are: (1) 43rumors has been thoroughly suckered into this, and (2) someone in (most likely China) has stockpiled a bunch of mediocre c-mount CCTV lenses and hopes to make a fortune from even more suckers. The best thing a lens like this will produce is the ability to tell viewers of your pictures that the lens you used was f/0.95 (“wow, gee-whiz, man-o-man – you’re kidding”)… and you’ll pretty much be forced to do so in order to change the subject away from the heavy vignetting and softness. Ha.

m4/3 logo compliance
2 years ago |@Ab
Exactly.
However, I must admit, I like the chosen colours of the Noktor website, but I doubt it’s compliant with what the owners would allow to be used. Branding a new product, is an important part in marketing, and companies are willing to pay big money for those campaigns.
Let’s see how this progresses until March 1st, which is the indicative launch date.
