March 4, 2010 |The GH1 and GF1 are both very interesting cameras. These, not so much. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of pricing Panasonic comes up with.

March 4, 2010 |“interesting” might be a bad choice of words. The touch screen looks to be very interesting (though I wouldn’t want it). I guess what I should have said is that the GH1 and GF1 strike me as much more desirable cameras. I don’t think these two cameras are going to excite consumers like the GF1, GH1, and LX3 have. Kinda disappointed in Panasonic.

March 4, 2010 |Must say some things are nice – Q.menu button being moved to the back as is the click-dial. Movie button is on top, giving more room for thumb. Focus mode selector – now on top -rather than having to go though on screen setting. Shutter release a bit more refined and elegant – no more unneccessary boxey edge. These are some pleasant additions to this platform.
Seems like panasonic is simply building a base of cameras G1, GH1, G2, G10, GF1 – with various ‘universal’ refinements that are simply part of this platform’s evolution. Think of how many Canon Eos models there are – with only so many changes from one to the next – though once an improvement is introduced, you generally see it on most of their cameras that follow – though not every new camera has to always out-do everything that came before. Be excited that when the GH2 comes out – not only will it have this supposed global shutter and 1080 60p – but it will have simple improvements in functionality due to all these in-between models.
Many asked why didn’t they include video in the G1. To me, it would have been a bigger risk in such a new market. Think of the G1 as a prototype. They used it to get cameras to the market at a decent price – and didnt just throw video on top like some other companies. They took time and made a camera and now a series of cameras that shoot amazing stills with any lens you can imagine – and shoot video too in a manner that is intuitive and works well.

March 4, 2010 |From the pics, it looks like the G2 has video capture but the G10 does NOT. That seems to be the only major difference between the two cameras.

March 4, 2010 |From the pics, it looks like the G2 has video capture but the G10 does NOT. That seems to be the only major difference between the two cameras. The reason i say that is because the G2 has the “HD” logo on the front and has a red “record” button on the top plate behind the shutter button. The G10 does not have the “HD” logo nor the red “Record” button on the top.
Come to think of it, this does not prove that the G10 does not have video, but if it does, its capability will surely be limited compared to the G2 to justify the price difference.

March 4, 2010 |To be honest I am very confused after reading the specs of these two cameras. I was expecting to see one higher-end and one lower-end model, but in this case it is hard to tell which one is the higher-end one. Also WTF is “Double Live View”? This whole thing look to me very artificial and made to confuse the customers into buying i-don’t-know-what ;-(

March 4, 2010 |@Kirilius: Also WTF is “Double Live View”?
As G10 has no eye sensor I think “Double Live View” means that both EVF and screen shows the preview image at the same time.
LOL!

March 4, 2010 |The Micro Four Third logo relocated to the backside of the camera, a clear downplay of it’s marketing value.
I also see these cameras share the two new standard zoom lenses, 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6, both Asph., both with O.I.S.
This twin launch does communicate a pricing war, and grabbing market share, at the window of opportunity at these virgin times of EVIL cameras.

March 5, 2010 |I’m almost hoping against hope these are not the final ones. These are certainly decent cameras (from the (thus-far incomplete) specs in the entry before this, but I expected something much more exciting from Panasonic.
I don’t suppose this bodes well for the hope that they may one day add even just SD video support as a firmware update to the G1 huh?

March 5, 2010 |look like the 14-42 lens does not have on/off switch for OIS.. does this mean that it is always ON when attach to the body?

March 5, 2010 |I’m very disappointed. Why so large cameras, Panasonic? Pocketability is the reason why fourthirds thrives…

You have to admire pure marketing at work: they turn a missing feature into a pompous name.
