(FT5) Competition is fighting back. 2 new mirrorless cameras from Samsung.
Via K-rumors.com:
There will be two new Samsung NX cameras between April and June. The first will be the NX5 we already told you about on k-rumors. The second camera will be the NX100. The NX100 will be released sometimes in May-June and be the first very compact NX model. It is aimed to compete “against” the Panasonic GF1
and Olympus PEN
cameras.
Both camera will use the same NX10 sensor.
Please follow K-rumors.com if you are interested to see all rumors regarding Samsung next mirrorless cameras.

3 years ago |They should concentrate on lenses instead forcing with further cameras. People need a usable standard zoom. The 18-55 is bullshit and only sharp within a very small region at the center. But that’s somewhat typical for Samsung – they have some very good ideas, but fail to present a complete concept. NX10 is great, but only usable with one Pancake at the moment.

3 years ago |What ever happened to the last FT5 rumor about 4/3 DSLR ? , to my best understanding FT5 isn’t a rumor anymore , it’s more like very early news , yet NO e460 or anything else from the slow guys from Olympus !!!
Please update on that – THANKS

3 years ago |Totally agree with R. Tessler. It is stupid to launch multiple cameras at the very beginning when the Samsung camera group is too still small. I understand Samsung wants to capture the market share in the minimum amount of time, but I won’t buy a Samsung version of GF1 or EPen definitely, if the company only cares about the quantity of products available on the market, rather than its good build quality and user experience, unless their products are selling at an extremely low price to compete with DC directly.
In addition, if there are too few lenses with their interchangeable lens camera, I don’t know how Samsung can capture the market, while people have no loyality to their cameras and its proprietary lens mount.

3 years ago |Unfortunately it seems like the low-end appeal is too strong for any manufacturer to resist. In other words Samsung is going to offer 2 stripped down versions of an already stripped down camera. No IBIS, no quality EVF no Tilt&Swivel LCD (even though it’s clearly the best fixed LCD around).
Without a lens system and nothing but their sensor to show, I don’t think they stand a chance…

3 years ago |Earlier there was a report of a “touch screen” version of NX10 would go on sale this spring? The leaked specs and prices for the NX5 sure seemed like that model was in fact the compact NX esp as no mention of an EVF and price with 30/f2 lens was only $600 or $150 less than that of NX10 with same lens? I hope the NX100 proves to be the super mini based on the the TL500 body with a swivel OLDED screen and only 4.5″W x 2.5″ H ?

3 years ago |Samsung’s biggest mistake is going it alone with their own mount in an already crowded ILC market. Even m43 started with a lot of existing 43 lenses that could be put on new cameras.
But a real deal breaker for me is no IBIS. Yes, some lenses are stabilized, but are therefore heavier and more expensive. IBIS is a feature that 100 EUR compacts nowadays have …
Also, the sensor size requires bigger lenses, so the size of a camera with lens is almost the same as some of the smaller DSLRs, so shrinking of the body will not help much.
If I was to buy such a camera, I’d rather take a Pentax K-x instead of Samsung NX10.

3 years ago |Moroslav – Samsung is delivering their lenses even faster than either Panasonic or Oly has and by end of year may match their lenses in every category but the wide angle zoom which is difficult in APS-C and will have more lenses available then Oly has for the m4/3rds, While m4/3rds can use 4/3 lenses that is not necessarily very practical as requires very expensive converter plus results in slower AF.
In my opinion Samsung will do very well especially as they have developed a very good 30/F2 pancake and will follow with other small primes plus compact body like the Pens and Gf1 due soon. Samsung stands to attract a lot of existing APS-C DSLR users who want to retain the advantages of their sensor but in a smaller camera format that an EVIL brings. and their OLED screens are the best in the business when having to deal with bright sunlight.
IBIS isn’t entirely the best cure all you are assuming. For one IBIS cannot be used for video so have to rely on less effective EIS instead as the Pens do. Is OIS is much better if you are going to do video. Second the IBIS results in camera shake which in the case of their 14-42 lens may result in unsharp pictures at the tele end based on user reports. While EPL1s IBIS is rated at 2 stops improvement some OIS lenses are rated at up to 4 stops improvement.
That said I still prefer to have IBIS on my dSLRs so will work on any lens.

3 years ago |Samsung will launch the 18-55mm no-IS and the compact zoom 20-50mm, the 18-200mm and 20mm f/2.8 also will come this year together 60mm f/2.8 Macro… 8 lenses for one year could be good.

3 years ago |Don – One of my favorites is night street shooting. And nothing beats a fast prime + IBIS in that conditions. I don’t want to lug a tripod or a monopod. I don’t know of a pancake lens with OIS …
The problem with Samsung NX is that it is trying to achieve many things and does not do any of them properly.
If I wanted DSLR quality photos and a small camera & lens size, I’d go for Olympus PEN of a Panasonic GF1. If I wanted better image quality and more lens choice, in a bigger package I’d go for Pentax K-x. And If I wanted even more lenses and accessories, but in a bit bigger format I’d buy a Cannon EOS 550 or a Nikon D5000.
Neither body size, nor image quality, nor lens choice, nor price sets Samsung apart.
But let’s read DPreview review …

3 years ago |And yes, only four m43 lenses from Olympus is really a small number. We need more.
