to me this looks like it will have a panasonic copy…
how coudl they do avchd with no experience in video… the specs look like identical to gf-1 only its aps-c … strange but good
Strange, it’s similar to the GF1 specifications (4000×3000 jpg, avchd video, same lcd, Peripheral defocus …) It’s not the first time Leica use a Panasonic camera, so why not a Leica “GF1″ made by panasonic ?
Where on earth do you get from that this uses an APS-C sensor? It says clearly micro four-thirds in the specs. Also: ever noticed that those specs are exactly the same as the Panasonic GF1′s? What a bizarre coincidence…!
You have concluded from the lens on the prototype that got pictured everywhere on the web that the X1 will be an APS-C camera. And maybe it will. But if the specs are in no way a confirmation of that. Rather the very opposite…
You should read what you’re posting…
I don’t think it can be a Panasonic GF1 copy if it has an APS-C-size sensor. So who can it be?
Fee, fi, fo, fum — I smell the Samsung NX architecture! Remember those Samsung teaser photos showing a pretty rangefinder-style NX camera and some lenses? The one we’ve never seen or heard of again since then? Maybe the reason it disappeared is that it got a prestigious “adoptive parent” and is going to reappear under the Leica brand name!
Could this use the Panasonic GH1 sensor? It is larger than G1/GF1 -sensor.
I really think it is a copy.
It seems to have the exact same sensor:
Effective pixels 12.11 million pick the wrong
Maximum number of pixels 13.66 million pick the wrong
The maximum resolution 4000 × 3000 pick the wrong
4000*3000 that’s the 4/3 aspect ratio. Any ASP-C have a 4*3 aspect ratio?
Then, it would really be an incredible concidence if the ASP-C sensor had the exact same effective and maximum number of pixels (and that is with 2 digits after the dot).
Everything else is just the same as well…
Pascal
There is also a fourthirds hotshoe. And why else marketing a 45mm macro if building an own system?
Also it says “Lens Model for M4 / 3 mount lenses pick the wrong” in the specs.
Hmmm… this list raises more questions than it answers… APS-C or M4/3? Fixed lens or mounted? Leica or Panasonic design?
I guess the parameters in that webpage are fake.
What indicates it has an APS sensor? The specs clearly state it’s a 4/3 mount camera with a 4000×3000 sensor (assuming the specs are genuine).
How can this be APS-C with those sensor specs? They match current Panasonic sensors. If we have to believe those sensor specs, then yes, this is another m43 camera. The question is… do we believe them?
I don’t think this is real… look at the slider in the shuttle button. If this is used for zoom, the it is contradict to inter-change lenses because inter-change lense should have its own zoom ring.
Secondly, I don’t think it is a good design if a shuttle dial is used because it will limit the exposure step.
Thirdly, look at the focus ring. it doesn’t look like a normal leica design.
Fourthly, the big grey circle which look like a button cost a lot of real estate on the cam. This is another bad design. I don’t think Leica will do this.
Fifth, the lense is non-coated… which is unusual nowadays.

If you think about this one : http://photorumors.com/2009/06/08/samsung-nx-camera-concept-micro-four-thirds/
I think it is a fake, it has a panasonic G1 mode dial…
But what is all the “pick the wrong” about?
These are NOT the specs. The X1 is NOT a mFT camera. It does NOT have interchangeable lenses. Clear? Someone just copied the GF1 specs presented them as X1 specs.
These are just a copy-paste of GF1 specs.
My X1 guess is: 10.1 Mp sensor with HD capture and 24mm lens (well that last part was not hard).
“Pick the wrong” is an artefact from Machine Translation. Probably “picked the wrong” combination of chinese characters…
What’s with the “pick the wrong” text? That makes this tough to decipher.
That lens on the model looks like the Pana 20mm with the Leica text photoshopped on. If this isn’t a 4/3rd camera, there’s no way this is real. The only other plausible mount would be m-mount and that is not an m-mount lens on the model. Whatever, if anything, comes on tuesday, I don’t think it’s going to look like this. There’s just too much wrong about the camera in the image and the specs…
The “pick the wrong” characters 挑错 are not part of the spec, just dead links of the web page. I don’t know why they were included.
If you look at the site in question, every row has a couple of characters on the right that appears when you mouseover. They mean “point out error” and lead to a feedback form. That’s where all the “pick the wrong”s come from.
There is no “mount” as it is a fixed-lens high-end point and shoot camera. A digital version of the Leica CM film camera to compete with the Sigma DP1/DP2 and other similar forthcoming cameras.
I don’t buy it as a fixed-lens camera. There would be distance and scale markings on the lens, I doubt leica would release a camera without them. The lens itself looks like the pana m43 pancake. There is what looks like a zoom lever on top, but it’s a fixed-lens prime? The specs seem to indicate a m43 size sensor, but it’s supposed to apsc sized? And a fixed lens without an OVF? That seems very unlikely, and probably wouldn’t appeal to the people who would be interested in paying the leica premium price.
I’m not saying they won’t announce a DP2 type camera, just that it’s not going to look like this.
The “zoom” lever on top is the mode switch as can also be seen on the M8/M9. Again, the specs were copied from the GF1 listing. Take a look at the camera measurements and weight. Do you really think that two different camera designs are going to measure exactly the same down the millimeter and gram? 119 mm x 71 mm x 36.3 mm and 448g with lens for both the GF1 and X1? Nope. Sorry but this is an FT1 at best.
The picture is a picture of a fixed-lens camera. There is not the push buttom of the µ4/3 mount that we can see on the Panasonic GF-1 and Olympus E-P1.
It’s will bee good for me (fixed prime lens) if it is not too big, but: the max-aperture is bad…
You can consider this one debunked now. The Leica M9 spec sheet has leaked (deliberate? probably) and towards the end of the brochure they show the rest of the lineup including the X1…
LEICA X1
The design of this elegant new compact member of the Leica camera family is
clearly reminiscent of the classic M cameras, but its beauty is more than skin
deep. It is equipped with a CMOS sensor equal in size to that of many DSLR cameras,
and it’s fitted with one of the very best Leica lenses, enabling it to stand on its
own even with the big boys in terms of image quality. As an optional alternative to
its impressive array of manual functions, it provides automatic features, such as
autofocus, making it a convenient companion for any discerning camera user.
I believe that the M9 ‘cat is out of the bag’, but the true story of the X1 still remains to be revealed.
That photo of the X1 does not seem to have an optical viewfiner, and while the specs indicate m4/3, it doesn’t appear to have an interchangeable lens.
