(FT3) UPDATED-> Watanabe tell us a little more about the “E-P2″
Le monde de la photo a french online magazine posted a new Interview with the CEO of Olympus.
http://www.lemondedelaphoto.com/Entre-chat-a-propos-de-l-Olympus,2341.html
There are not many news just follwing minor indications over the next E-P2 camera:
It will have an electronic viewfinder and faster AF and not get any bigger in size than E-P1
I could not imagine a E-P1 sized camera with EVF.

I doubt that the camera rumoured for December is the EP-2 and I doubt even more that Olympus is upgrading the EP-1 before placing their flag on the upper market.
I’d be glad and dandy if the December camera turned out to be exactly like a GH1 with sensor based IS. EVF and T/S 3” screen are just too sweet…

4 years ago |May you are right. But as far as I know Olympus is only working on the development of ONE MFT camera.

First , It does not say it would have a built-in flash. let’s hope that it does not have the flash which is not needed for a lot of the high end users
also I suspect that the EVF might be an add-on and not a built-in
if there is indeed an EP-2 in the near future ( December sounds optimistic , maybe just a date for a mock-up) it should have :
a black body
some weather sealing
hopefully a CF card with a BLM 01 battery ( a bigger grip should allow to lodge the BLM01 battery
and MOST of all a series of dedicated single focal lenghts like a 24mm and a 85mm equivalents ( in 35 mm terms) with a decent optional external OVF
Olympus needs also to allow the AF in focus signal to be visible from the user when the eye is looking through the OVF

4 years ago |Maybe Watanabe wanted to say that the next camera will have the same form-factor as the E-P1. So it will be roughly the same size but could be slightly larger. But not DSLR-large.

4 years ago |I think it would be awesome, if it would be about the same size as E-P1, or just slightly bigger
but feature an articulating display and a really good built in EVF.
i would prefer one without a built in flash.

Watanabe talks about what a future EP-2 will have but he’s not saying they are already working on it.
From what I’ve gathered, Olympus is working on a upper segment m43 camera with EVF, which IMHO could be a contestant to the G1/GH1. It’s only logical that this work might be incorporated in the future EP-2, but that doens’t mean they doing it as we speak. The December camera is in much more urgency now that the EP-1 has materialized.

That the direction is for an electronic viewfinder although an optical one is not out of the question. FYI I have translated most of that French Q&A session with Mr Watanabe there http://www.flickr.com/photos/nycandre/3695960422/

4 years ago |News flash: the “micro” in “Micro Four Thirds” means “small”, as in, let’s make a small camera with a relatively big sensor.
To everyone who is writing in saying you want the EVF but not the flash, would you willing to carry the flash, all the fixed lenses, the external EVF, and all the other detritus for me on an 8-day, 80-mile, mostly off trail backpack in the high Sierra?
I want the flash IN the camera, because I will use it mostly for filling in foreground, not portraits. If you want all the functionality of a Four Thirds or SLR and you want to carry all the ancillary gear, then please, go ahead and buy a larger camera. Let micro be micro!
