(FT3) Updated2->The next three Panasonic MicroFourThirds lenses.
We already told you that Panasonic will keep working with Leica on new lenses. Finally “someone” told us which lenses you could be seeing in Q4 2009 or Q1 2010.
-Â 20mm f/1.7 (This is the only lens Panasonic has officially announced). This lens hasn’t be made in collaboration with Leica and should be released in autumn.
- 16-50mm f/2.5-4.8 OIS (summarit)
- 30mm f/1.4 OIS (summilux)
The last two lenses should be released together with the new Panasonic MicroFourThirds camera at the end of the year.
UPDATE: The 16-50 f/2.8-4.5 should be optimized for video. That explains the 16mm starting focal length which is unusual for photography but a normal focal length for videocameras.
UPDATE2: I made a little mistake. The source told me the 16-50mm lens will have a f/2.5-4.8 aperture! That’s why it is called Summarit (because it starts with 2.5)!
P.S.: I know it sounds a little unusual but we will soon see if the source has been right!
.
If you need lenses I remind you that Panasonics 45-200mm f/4.0-5.6 Lumix lens is in stock at amazon.com (with heavy discount for $308 only!).
.
And sadly, still none in stock

July 13, 2009 |glad to have some confirmation that the 20/1.7 is coming… and it’s also good to know it hasn’t been swept into the leica collaboration (it wants to be relatively inexpensive).
i don’t understand the appeal of a 60mm equivalent lens.

July 13, 2009 |I guess the 30/1.4 would give you a good deal more depth of field control than the 20/1.7 which will be much better than the 17/2.8. The equivalent 60mm is a little unusual, though. Maybe that one won’t happen..

July 13, 2009 |Right now I am taking a look on you website Max. Wonderful pictures!

July 13, 2009 |a 20 mm would have been interesting but sadly a pancake . but in this case at least , the 40mm focal (in 35mm terms) makes a lot of sense which is really NOT the case for a 30mm lens
60mm is too long for standard and too short for portraits.
the m4/3 is supposedly booming and yet NOT ONE interesting single focal length in sight.
I guess Panasonic and Olympus are so busy thinking about their next cameras that they forget to check the focal length that the competition is sellling ( 24 mm , 80 to 90mm , ..)

July 13, 2009 |Dont like the 16-50mm either. Why not a 12-35mm?And the 30mm has no appeal to me…but then again i wouldnt have the money for either one….just hoping the 20mm 1.7 wont be expensive…any rumors about the price?

July 13, 2009 |The 20/1.7 should be a hit but I’m very sceptical to the other two. Certainly I wouldn’t be interested in those focal lengths. The 16-50 could have been interesting if it had been a constant f/2.8 though.

July 14, 2009 |I don’t believe in the 30mm F1.4, (60mm F2.8 equiv in 35mm) especially coming from Leica. If it were a 25mm F1.4 or a 30mm F2 macro why not. The 16-50 is also strange. It does not look like a very reliable rumor. Will see.

Joachim
July 14, 2009 |I doubt, that Leica calls a f/2,8 -lens a “summarit”, there may be an error above.

July 14, 2009 |The 20mm is a must have for an E-P1. 40 (full frame) used to be a very common lens in compacts, like the Olympus 35RD (40/1.7). I’d like the 30/1.4 even more, but it will probably cost an arm and a leg, if it’s branded Leica.

July 14, 2009 |I’m having my doubts on this source…
wouldn’t the zoom be a vario, since the aperture isn’t fixed?

July 15, 2009 |Got no info about the lens

July 31, 2009 |Just to clarify Leica names:
f1 = Noctilux
f1.4 = Summilux
f2.0 = Summicron
f2.4-2.5 = Summarit
f2.8 = Elmarit
f4.0 = Elmar
A Zoom is a vario, so the 16-50mm f/2.5-4.8, if it happens, will be a vario summarit

July 31, 2009 |Sorry not any zoom, but a zoom with a variable maximum aperture lens will be a vario, my bad.
Adam Maas
August 7, 2009 |Note Noctilux just means faster than f1.5
And a 30/1.4 would be very nice, it’s close to the 58mm length I favour as a wider portrait lens on 35mm.
Adam Maas
August 7, 2009 |Argh, that should have read ‘faster than f1.4′ not f1.5.
There have been f1.2, f1 and f0.95 Noctiluxes.

August 28, 2009 |Wow.. the coming of these new lenses will definitely make me purchase a micro 4/3.

September 3, 2009 |Would somebody please explain why the new pancake lens will be 20mm instead of 25mm?
A 25mm lens would be a 50mm equivalent, which is considered a “normal” prime lens. Why would Panasonic make a lens that is not considered standard in photography?

September 23, 2009 |I’m still hoping for a 25mm prime as well, either from Pany or Oly, or perhaps even Leica. Hopefully a fast one at that!
Lets hope the manufacturers do listen to the polls!
