(FT3) No Fuji MicroFourThirds camera
UPDATE: This is not a fools day joke!
One month ago we received a rumor from one single source saying that Fuji has choosen to not join MicroFourThirds. Now photorumors received a new rumor which seems to confirm the rumor I had.
Fujifilm Japan will cease production of F200EXR in May 2010. Also, a new S-Pro series professional camera is currently in planning:
* Not a Micro Four Thirds camera
* Using a 12-Megapixel APS-C SuperCCD EXR Pro sensor
* Possibly incorporating either M-mount (Leica) or F-mount (Nikon)
* Extended 1000% wide dynamic range
* Full HD photos and video with HDMI connection
* Built-in Dual IS image stabilization
* ISO 12,8000″
During the past month I received some rumors about Fuji. I didn’t write you anything because it is not clear what’s happening with Fuji. My “feeling” is that Fuji will play a role together with Olympus sooner or later…

4 years ago |Well, sounds very promising, but I have doubts in the mount.
If it is Nikon F, then here is no advantage of being mirrorless (he flange register is huge!)
If it is Leica M, there is no AF, unless they add some extra electronics to the mount.
Anyway, if they have a short flange mount, in body IS and a nice hi res EVF (like the G1 or EP2) I’m in!

4 years ago |Jose, the rumor says that this won’t be EVIL camera but DSLR. But I think that it’s FT1. Late prima aprilis joke.

4 years ago |If it will be an M-mount, then it can’t be an SLR because M-mount lenses need to have a short flange distance right?

4 years ago |Rob: Exactly! It does look like they will produce something for either 43 or m43… I like that list, it’s a very wide gambit of companies. Sanyo? Don’t they only make cheap camcorders right now? Kodak? Their brand name isn’t as good as it used to be. Sigma, ok, maybe we will also get a variety of cheap lens! FujiFilm, they should produce something interesting… Leica, $$$ but sounds interesting. I think 43/m43 is heading in the right direction. I just want to know where Canon and Nikon are going.

4 years ago |1. Fujifilm executives are on the record as saying they are out of the DSLR business.
2. The rumor itself is inconsistent. An M-mount has a different flange distance than F-mount, and would require a high degree of microlens correction (ala the Leica M8/M9) to even work, and even then you still need post correction. You can’t do both. Moreover, where does this body come from? While Fujifilm has the ability to create bodies (witness the all-in-ones), they don’t have the technology IP to do the autofocus system, amongst other things.
3. A 12mp EXR sensor would produce 6mp at high dynamic range, effectively meaning that it would be no better than the S5 Pro. It seems highly unlikely to me that Fujifilm would even consider doing another DSLR that doesn’t outshoot one that is now several years out of date.
4. It’s easy enough to invent ISO numbers out of the blue, not so easy to design that into sensors. The current EXR tech would not produce a usable 12,800 on APS-C at 12mp.

4 years ago |With every passing day I believe more and more that Fuji will not produce a m43 body. As a Fuji owner, I would like it very much to happen.
.
A m43 camera with EXR sensor would take the system far away from the almost non existent mirrorless competition, but I’m afraid that would be too good to be true

4 years ago |They’d better produce say 10-12 Mpx (but 6-8 Mpx would be far enough) Four-Thirds high dynamic range Super CCD EXR sensor that can be incorporated into any Olympus or Panasonic body (both Four-Thirds and Micro Four-Thirds). I’d love to have a E-470 with such sensor.
