(FT3) new Samsung NX-5 camera? + Samsung vs MicroFourThirds comparisons

Sometimes we receive rumors about other brands. We received some about Samsung which we are going to post here. According to our sources a new Samsung NX camera could be announced soon. Very likely it will be a compact NX camera. One possible leak has been spotted on multitronic.se. They list the NX-5 on their homepage and the NX-5 +18-55mm costs 135$ less than the NX-10+18-55mm combo.
What’s more interesting for us as MicroFourThirds users is that today we found two new Samsung vs MFT comparisons:
1) The HongKong website Unwire.hk made a GF1 vs E-P2
vs NX10 comparison.
2) And there is one more comparison on the very known german magazine der Spiegel: Samsung NX10 vs. Olympus EPL1 (deutsch / google english translation)
P.S.: Today the Samsung NX10 is in Stock at Adorama and BHphoto. So it is official…we are not alone on the earth

3 years ago |Sincerely this is no competition.
In my book, the NX10 can’t compare favorably to any m43 model, let alone a NX5.
From what I’ve gathered, they have only 2 slight advantages:
1) The LCD screen is SO MUCH BETTER, but it doesn’t Tilt nor Swivel nor Touch.
2) The sensor is a little bit better than most of the m43 offer, but in some aspects it is no match for the unit on the GH1.
The disadvantages are just too much to make it a viable option:
1) EVF below par
2) No IBIS (compared to Olympus)
3) No lens system yet.
4) Not suitable for high quality video.

3 years ago |Duarte Bruno, it is not a fair comparison to take the best features from m43 camera pool and compare it to NX10. No single m43 camera has all the great features you listed.
Let’s debunk your “disadvantages”:
1) E-P1 has no EVF at all. NX10 has arguably a better EVF than GF1 has.
2) No Panasonic camera has IBIS
3) m43 had only 2 lenses at (G1) launch
4) well.. the only m43 camera suitable for “high-quality” video is GH1
My biggest gripe is the lack of articulating screen. One of the next models will probably have it.
To me NX10 seems very adequate competition to m43.

3 years ago |Samsung said that they want to own mirror-less system camera segment. They will go very aggressively, an I think they will introduce the first digital mirror-less camera with 35mm sensor (not because of image quality, but just for fact to have biggest sensor on the market). That should be a game changer for someone. But what is good for now, there are another competitor to Olympus/Panasonic partnership, so stuff like OLEDs and so on we may see on next mFT/FT cameras.

3 years ago |The question I have is will it come with the 30mm/f2 as a std kit lens? Second will it come with a swivel OLED screen like the one on the TL500 just introduced. That would be an interesting and attrative alternative for the minis in question?

You are right about the way I picked the best features but still:
Let’s debunk your “disadvantages”:
1) E-P1 has no EVF at all. NX10 has arguably a better EVF than GF1 has.
E-P2/E-PL1/G1/GH1/G2 have. Take your pick!
2) No Panasonic camera has IBIS.
You are right. There is no camera with IBIS & tilt&swivel. NOt from m43 nor from Samsung.
3) m43 had only 2 lenses at (G1) launch
Have you counted lately? Also the range of MF adapters make it virtually infinite.
4) well.. the only m43 camera suitable for “high-quality” video is GH1
I was thinking about the jello effect so any m43 camera with NMOS sensor is better than the NX.

3 years ago |I think that Panasonic is already in a dogfight with Samsung. Aggressive pricing from Samsung may drive people at the mass consumer level in that direction who aren’t aware of the arguments pros and cons. Will the NX5 be a GF1 clone for about $560.00? (NX10 price minus $140.00) Buying decisions may be reinforced or rationalized by the claim of a “bigger” sensor. I hope Panasonic prices come down a bit across the board – to protect its share of the EVIL market, but also because I am waiting to buy a camera!.

3 years ago |The rumor that the NX5 will not have the eyepiece hump is indeed exciting news, as it will indeed make it a real competitor to the m4/3rds cameras in terms of size.
But the decision to give the NX5 an ordinary LCD screen instead of the bright AMOLED screen tempers my excitement.
Nonetheless, very keen on eventually seeing both the NX10 and NX5 in person to make a choice.

3 years ago |Maybe I will sound subjective, but I will never buy gnusmaS camera!
Even if they offer same features at lower price, I would always prefer a product from a Camera-brand.
For the same reason I prefer German cars to Korean.
…and only one word comes to my mind: “CHEAP”. Who will be next? Maybe LG? LMAO!
The aggressive dump pricing policy only confirms my statement.
