(FT3) new Panasonic MicroFourThirds camera to be launched on February 2010
We received two new mails from new sources. Both messages do say that Panasonic will launch a new MicroFourThirds camera in February. It is very likely that the GH1
is going to be “upgraded”. Also a new generation of Panasonic sensors should be used for the camera.
(FT2) It is rumored that the camera will be the “GH5″ and use a new 12 Megapixel sensor. 24Mbit/s video compression should also be one of the upgraded features.
No specific details are available yet.
(FT4) What we already know is that on February Panasonic will launch new lenses!

Highly interested in a GH1 replacement. Better sensor would be outstanding, although the real weakness of the system now is the video codec, so glad to hear that is to be upgraded. Some non-AVCHD codec would also be welcome, especially if it were some form of RAW or RAWesque output. Incorporation of the new Epson display in the EVF would be great. Please disable audio autogain functions, add proper level metering, and change the sub-mini connector. Not related to technical issues, but I don’t like the SLR styling of the body. Take some cues from the Olympus and Leica designers. I personally would rather not have any built in LCD display and removal of all non-essential stylistic filters, scenes, and any other non-essential automatic features. No built in flash is necessary either. If I can operate the camera mostly with physical dials and avoid menus, that would be great.
Now that there’s a fair amount of micro 4-3 lenses, and that some users are looking to upgrade their bodies, Panasonic has got to start offering bodies without kit lenses. It’s a little ridiculous that you can’t buy a G1 or a GH1 without also having to spend on a kit lens you may not want.
