(FT2)Two new Panasonic MFT cameras to come?
Just recieved a new rumor from a new source. He told me Panasonic will launch two new MicroFourThirds cameras. And he says one of the cameras is to put into the “GF1″ category. Two days ago another rumor we received told us that Panasonic will announce a new camera on February 18.
Something is happening…can you tell me more? Send your rumors at 43rumors@gmail.com

February 7, 2010 |I’ll get out my credit card if Panasonic launch the GF2 later this month. Oh, Lord, please make it so!

February 7, 2010 |Any suggestions as to what’s on the rumored GF2? Built-in GPS (I’d like that). Sensor cover when changing lenses? Built in IS? Back-illuminated sensor or whatever they call that one Fuji has? I’ve been strongly thinking about a GF1 (or EP1, $599 with the kit zoom at my local camera store) but haven’t had any reason to rush.

February 7, 2010 |My pocket would very quickly have a big burnt hole in it if one of the cameras were to be a G2 the flip & twist LCD retained and with IBIS added, – in addition to whatever other IQ improvement goodies Panasonic has up its sleeve ! This would, finally, draw me into the m43 system – forcing me to buy a new G2 body and a bunch of lenses !
Not holding my breath though – I enjoy life too much.

February 7, 2010 |If this rumor proves true makes sense that Pany in effect has created a GF1 and GF2 ie one with flash, one with EVF replacing flash as very feasible but would be maybe 0.2″ higher. Maybe a small flash will be on hotshoe but run of camera battery? Last fall there was even a rumor with blackened shape showing what appeared to be a EVF attached to side of hotshoe on GF replacing the flash. Makes a lot of sense from the manufacturing standpoint with very little to change compared to cost of producing an all new model.
The second m4/3 would be in effect the GH1 in a new body shell possibly styled like the L1 only EVF/flash in raised center and both ends lower I hope. Pany has already recouped much of the cost from G1 sales so could keep the cost down simply reuse the same body parts outside of shell. This would be much more attractive than present G1 form. That still leaves open the possibility that the GH2 will in fact be the mini L1 in a all metal high end model come next fall. While the GH2 projected to have 1080/6P HD and electronic shutter, but I don’t think any IBIS.

February 8, 2010 |Hmm.. I somehow doubt a GF-1 type camera. The GF-1 is not due for replacenebt yet. So what could they do?
A cheaper model? But what would they cut down on? A cheaper screen maybe. And cheaper made shell. But is that enough to differentiate it from the GF-1? Probably not.
So what about a more advanced model? What could they add? More advance video? Maybe. Built-in EVF? That would probably make ot too large and too close to the GH-1.

February 8, 2010 |Could it be a fixed lens lx4 with micro4/3 sensor plus the G2? Surely the GF1 is too early to supercede. Lx3 is well overdue!

February 8, 2010 |Even a small update to the GH1 would be nice.. change the small dial to ISO and move single/continuous/manual focus to a three way switch. Change the film and quick menu buttons to ‘A’ and ‘B’ and just make them configurable (or replace with said three way switch). Either make the quick menu actually quick or get rid of it. Add a higher quality encoding option and let me choose between 50p/60p.
Never going to happen but I’d also happily see all the scene modes deleted and the PASM dial changed to shutter speed plus A mode… or just simplify it like the GF1 dial… or make it two-tier like the G11 and put exposure compensation on the small dial.
Or better yet add a proper exposure mode that simply exposes “to the right”. Then I wouldn’t even need exposure compensation.

February 8, 2010 |I find it hard to see that a model wich is both as compact and also superior to the GF1 would be set for release anytime soon. It would be easy to suggest that the video-recording could be improved (stereo instead of mono, more FPS etc), and also that the LCD-display could be 920,000 dots instead of 460,00 (like many Nikon and Sony cameras in the same pricegroup, but then again the main rival ep-2 has 230,00 …) But the GF1 marely has 5 month on the market, at least here in northen Europe, and it’s most critical con so far has been it’s pricetag. People in general are pleased with what the GF1 offers in terms of functions and settings: the camera is not aiming for pros. And at the moment I don’t think the IQ could be much improved in a compact shell like the GF1, so I don’t think the hardcore enthusiasts will take a peek at Panny just yet.

February 8, 2010 |The GH2 has to keep the DSLR-like body. I don’t want one of those little “cigarette pack” cameras (GF1, L1, Rangefinder). Sorry, I know it’s a classic shape, but not for me. They need to bring up the blue body option from the G1, so I can get a matching ZS7 for snapshots and GH2 for serious shooting.
If they can weather-proof the body like the $1500 cameras from Canon & Nikon, that’d be nice. Would they announce the GH2 & GF2, even if they’re not going to be available until Summer? If not, I suspect one of the new cameras will be an entry level product like the E-PL1 that will take the place of the LX3, leaving Panasonic with only 2 sensors to worry about (1/2.33 & 4/3).
