(UPDATED) First Olympus XZ-1 review by DSLRmagazine (spanish)
DSLRmagazine is the very first website to post an Olympus XZ-1 review (Click here to read the google english translated text). They made a very detailed and accurate test. Those are a few interesting discoveries:
- The lens resolution is very high at 28mm and wide open (f/1.8)! Resolution decreases on the tele end.
- Moderate distorion at 28mm
- Moderate Vignetting at 28mm and f/1.8
- Very good autofocus and metering!
- Veyr good image quality up to ISO 800.
All in all a very good camera that is on par (if not slightly better) than the competition (Panasonic LX5, Samsung EX1 and Canon S95)
UPDATE: pcpop posted a XZ-1 review with many image samples.
Olympus XZ-1 preorders at Amazon, Adorama, Amazon Deutschland, Amazon France and Amazon UK.

This is certainly the way in which Olympus need to further develop the compact segment. Move away from the cheap 16MP compact madness and offer distinguished products with excellent results.

I hope people will change their think of Olympus, after PEN E-PL1 and now XZ-1!

2 years ago |Yes, it’s a good method to get around the diffraction limit of small sensor systems. The Nokia N8 uses a similar system (ND filters instead of relying on the aperture).
Incidentally, Oly seems to have done their homework, the web calculator on this site estimates that the diffraction limit for a 2/3″ sensor starts to appear at f/8, exactly where they’ve implemented their ND filter.
