First Olympus E-PL2 already on eBay and Amazon.de! (+ Amazon E-PL2 status change)
Olympus is as usual much faster than Panasonic in shipping new products. Unlike the Panasonic GH2 (only the silver version is in Stock at Adorama) the new Olympus E-PL2 is already in Stock at eBay (Click here) two weeks only after the announcement! It’s sold by an eBay Powerseller from Hong Kong which has more than ten of them in Stock. And Amazon US has changed the status from “preorder” to “temporarily out of Stock” which usually means that they will have them in Stock very soon.
Panasonic, you should take a lesson from Olympus on how to shorten the rime between the announcement and the real delivery of new products
Pre order the Olympus E-PL2 at Amazon, Adorama, Amazon DE, Amazon FR,
And the Olympus XZ-1 at Amazon, Adorama, Amazon DE, Amazon FR and Amazon UK.

3 years ago |It would be nice indeed if Panasonic could shorten the time between product introduction and availability, but I rather wait longer for really relevant product innovations (GH2) instead of yet another cosmetic change of an existing product (E-PL2).

3 years ago |how can a product be “irrelevant”? why is the e-pl2 not competitive? it has a very promising kit lens, af has been improving continuously and is not far from panasonic at all anymore, image quality is excellent, image stabilization also improved, the addon evf is outstanding and the body looks good too.
what’s not to like?

3 years ago |It’s been in the shops here in HK for a while now – HK$4980. The E-PL1 in the same shops is about HK$500 cheaper.

3 years ago |I agree the EPL2 is a sweet camera. The lack of 1080p video is its only shortcoming I can find, at the moment.
Not sure why the silver GH2 shows in stock again at Adorama… called them yesterday, and they don’t have any.

3 years ago |When a delivery arrives the units are booked in, so the website will show the units as being in stock. Anyone who places an order at this time will receive an automated confirmation that the order has been received.
However, when an item is heavily back-ordered (because we don’t charge until an order actually ships), all the back-orders have to be filled first, and the units are removed from the shelves by our warehouse team, and packaged for shipping.
At the exact moment that the final back-ordered unit is removed from stock, any customers with unfulfilled orders will receive an automated email indicating that the unit is on back order.
Our website does not update in real time, to allow for order cancellations – the bulk of which typically occur within the first 30 – 45 minutes of placing an order eg because a customer has had a change of heart, or because his wife walks into the room at the exact moment that he places his order………
This explains why, when you look at the website or place an order, it could appear from the site that there are still units in stock – when in fact they have already been allocated to customers who placed their orders during the previous week or two.
We operate a very strict procedure which ensures that orders are fulfilled in the order in which they are received.
Knowing how heavily back-ordered new releases can be,(and that I don’t think any manufacturer ever sends sufficient units to fulfil all of a retailer’s back orders immediately, pre-ordering is the most reliable way to ensure that you are in line for early allocation.
Remember, Adorama does NOT charge your cc until we actually ship your order. So you can order with confidence – and if you find the item somewhere else sooner, a quick call to our friendly CS team, or an email to me: helen.oster@adoramacamera.com, and your order can be cancelled immediately!

3 years ago |I think it has more to do with marketing. Consider this the GF2 has been available in high volume in Japan since early December yet here we have a post raising peoples expectations when only 10 EPL2 cameras available on Ebay from Hong Kong or in the case of GH2 or rare lens is available when only as few as only one or two are available? This is a recipe for disappointment as most will find to their dismay that it is gone or its low price.
The real reason has more to do with supply and demand. In the US among m4/3 compacts the GF1 with 20/1.7 has been far and away the most popular model along with the NEXs I believe while the EPL1 has not fairer nearly as well as it has in countries such as Japan where it competes about even with the GFs. Consequently when I inquire about current availability of the GF1 at its current bargain price in US ($300 body with Pany rebate) I find they are flying off the self with hundreds disappearing from shops after only a few days. In contrast in US at least the EPL1 has had a harder time competing with the NEXs and GF1s inspite of reduced prices so quick introduction of EPL2 essential to Oly success and I believe this new model is indeed a big improvement over EPL1 and will be very popular as will the GF2 once it finally gets here. So as long as Pany can continue to sell the GF1 so well here they are in no hurry to bring on the GF2 rather satisfy demands in Japan until the GF3 or real GF1 upgrade is ready? Note the bargain price of GF1 + 20/1.7 lens is just about what the new GF2 with tiny 14/2.5 list price will be in US while the GF2 w zoom will be even cheaper in comparison and same price as EPL2 competing head to head at $600.

3 years ago |I just noticed that E-PL2 and GF2 now can be ordered (but not yet in stock) at exactly the same price with standard zoom at the local webstores. Which one is the the better choice?
(But I think I will wait for EP3 and GF3) ;o)
