2 years ago |Don’t worry, Olympus is pretty good to put things on the market quickly. A thousand times better than Panasonic.

2 years ago |It would be nice if they gave a bit more solid of a date than “approximately the first half of April” though.

2 years ago |But then again, they have been pushing the E-P1 in new disguises for years now.

2 years ago |I wouldn’t say it’s irrelevant, it’s obviously easier to get new camera to the marked when they are just small modifications to the last generation. Panasonic have struggeled to get some new models out, but also had more significant improvements. It’s just the last generation Pens (better af) and the new EM-5 that have had real improvements compared to the E-P1/E-PL1.

2 years ago |Panasonic did not have any problems making the cameras. They had problems with their supply chain management. They were constantly waiting on material that they have been using for years to build their cameras. That caused delays in assembly. They were also very poor in distributing the cameras after they were assembled and ready to go. It takes them over a month from leaving the factory door to the consumers hand. It takes companies like Olympus and Sony (despite the floods) about a week, and for the faster companies like Apple, you can literally have a product in your hands less than 24 hours after it has been checked off by the quality inspector in china. A newer tech or older tech camera is not the driver for Panasonic’s distribution speed.

2 years ago |Like I said, absolutely irrelevant. There is a vast difference between the E-P1 and the E-M5. Stop spouting nonsense.

2 years ago |I’m trying to recall what the delay was when the previous Pen cameras launched. I think it was less than two weeks though so I’d expect early pre-orders to ship relatively soon. Yes, Olympus is very good about getting cameras to market in good supply. The E-M5 might be their first where there are shortages though since it seems like it will be very popular.

2 years ago |Having received a phone call last Monday telling me to expect delivery in a week or so, I received a phone call today saying it has been delayed until the third week in April. Not impressed! I’m in UK.

2 years ago |I think that Olympus USA will fill some of its earliest pre-orders this coming week (in 3 to 5 days I’m guessing). They have a history of sending them out at about the same time as they send their first shipments to the other retailers. Looking back to last summer with the three new PEN’s that were launched, what I’m describing is exactly what happened.

2 years ago |I thought I had ordered Feb. 8, but it turns out my order went in on Feb.7 with Amazon. So, I’m among the first group of orders with Amazon. We’ll see if these first orders coincide with what you are predicting for Oly USA and the vendors. But not to disappoint myself, it’s more likely going to be much later in April that I may see the E-M5.
