Double Panasonic GF2 and Olympus E-5 review!
We have two new Panasonic GF2 and two new Olympus E-5 reviews!
1) Trustedreviews tested the GF2. The camera earns 8.5 out of 10 points. Verdict: “While the Panasonic Lumix DMC-GF2 is a worthy successor to the existing and soon to be phased out GF1, it’s not the most direct, like-for-like replacement. This means that existing owners may well want to hang on to the camera they’ve already got – especially if they value the tactile nature of a chunky physical shooting mode dial over a virtual screen-based equivalent.”
2) Photoreview Australia also tested the GF2. Also in that case the score is very good 8.5/10. Verdict: “Snapshooters looking for a pocketable camera with a large image sensor and support for raw file capture and Full HD video recording may find the GF2 an attractive option. Serious photographers who want a compact camera as an adjunct or alternative to a DSLR will probably need to keep looking.”
3) SLRclub posted a very long and korean written only E-5 review. As usual they do post everything as a jpg image so google translate can’t work. But there are plenty of test images, charts and videos you can analyze for yourself.
4) There is also an english written E-5 review at Pixiq: “If you already own Zuiko Digital lenses the cost of trading up to this camera will pay off, providing the most effective Olympus technology and the greatest versatility. ”
Reminder: According to Amazon UK the Panasonic GF2 should be in Stock on January 24. And you get a free photography gift pack worth £150 when you preorder the camera now. If you are non-japanese the only way to get the GF2 now is through ebay where they have a few items in Stock (Click here).

2 years ago |GF2 seems like a fail
Sony and Panasonic Switched roles now, GF1 had amazing UI and NEX5/3 had horrible UI
Now Sony revealing NEX7 with better UI and More buttons but Panasonic going for the casual GF2…….

That is what called competition
The effect is one of subject of the old saying: Choose Your Enemy Wisely. (Because one eventually becomes very similar to the competitor.)

2 years ago |I just shot my second wedding using the E-5. I am so pleased with this camera. Nobody talks much about the autofocus on this camera. They said its the same but I am telling you right now. The continuous AF is amazing. I couldnt even use this feature on the E-3 and now I use it all the time.

2 years ago |Amateur Photographer magazine has just published its review of the GF2 and they seemed to be particularly impressed by the AF speed and the user interface. Score overall was a good 83%, but they commented that the resolution and noise of the sensor makes it lag behind APS-C competitors. (They made similar comments recently about Olympus E-5).
Condisering the high sales of the GF1 it doesn’t seem to make sense for Panasonic to have the three chunkier EVF cameras (G10, G2 and GH2) and only one of the smaller cameras, the GF2.
It would be surprising if they didn’t launch a higher spec. compact model, which could be something like a Gh2 without a viewfinder.
