2 years ago |I don’t know what to do now and I really need some advice from you guys!
I’m leaving on a trip at the beginning of August, and I want a good camera to take awesome pics with. I was waiting and hoping the LX5 would come out by then, but know that we know its only coming out late august, I don’t know if I should just buy the LX3?! Or, should I just use my crappy 5 year old Canon P&S until the LX5? Ugh.
Help! This is such a dilemma.

2 years ago |LX5: JPEG IS WORSE IQ THAN LX3
uurgh… look at photography blog samples… iso 80 is oversharpened… you can see it in the out-of-focus area of sample pics… and iso 1600 looks nasty… what’s that yellow smearing and strange noise pattern… the lens seem superb however…

2 years ago |I have had the LX3 since start of June. Except from the a bit short 60mm tele, this is a camera you will love, if You prefer:
*Highest possible picture quality (in compact class)
*Excellent build quality (but still you should have a bag for it)
*A genuine “point-and-shoot” camera: In “iA”(auto) the camera adjust very nice, better than I am able to do myself in 95%
I have so far not found any faults. It could have better tele, the battery could be better, the lens cap should be fastened at bottom of camera and not on the side, but this is “nothing” when you take a look at the nice pictures it takes.
You cannot go wrong. Promise

2 years ago |Photointern say CHF 749 so about 550 euro or 710 $$ alittle bit expensive for such a camera
admin

2 years ago |Look at those new Fuji cameras also on DPReview today… they have “Hybrid autofocus” which chooses between SLR-style phase detect autofocus for most situations, and contrast detect for low-light. So… Fuji have got phase detect AF working without a mirror? Could be pretty significant…
admin
2 years ago |Yes Pancake! That’s an icnreidble interesting approach. Hope to see some review soon!

@Pancake: Very promising, just curious if Fujifilm considering to produce *ILC (4/3 or whatever APS sensor).

2 years ago |so have they actually changed the sensor in any way? claim 30% more sensitivity and saturation – they had to make a change to do that right?
fta
2 years ago |They got rid of the “joystick”!!!!! and the view/record “switch” is now a button!!! Both of these are proper improvements. Those were the two biggest things bugging me about the lx3 (besides the lens cap).

2 years ago |And you can use the GF1 DMW-LVF1 electronic view finder… Very smart move.
Hey Admin, how do I edit my own posts??? argh!!
admin
2 years ago |Hi FTA! You can’t. Wiht the new website you will be able to do that!

Thanks.

2 years ago |I have to say: These FZ100 sample images on the Polish website are the worst image quality I have seen for a long while from a camera priced at 500 bucks! That would better have been a half-broken pre-production model or this camera is doomed from the very first start. No Super-HD movie mode, intelligent rain cloud detection (iRCD) or 500 fps could cure that basic image quality problem. 15 Megapixels and a 24x zoom on a 1/2.33″ sensor – yeah, sure.
Stupid folks who pre-order now without having seen if the camera really can live up to the always amazing best-camera-ever announcement.

2 years ago |There was a time when I would have been excited about the FZ100 and LX5. No more. I think they’re overpriced for what they are.

2 years ago |I actually waited for the FZ100 to be released hoping that the quality would be better. But after seeing the sample shots and how they kept the ultra-small EVF … it did nothing but convince me that the Canon SX30 might be the next megazoom that I’m looking for.
I really hope that they improve the camera’s IQ

2 years ago |I also think Fuji F300EXR was the star of the day. Hybrid AF, proven EXR sensor, Gyro-helped IS, pro low light ( probably some image stitching technique similar to Sony’s hand held twilight ), 360 degree panorama, 24mm at wide end, 15x zoom in a compact body – impressive. I’m eagerly waiting for the first reviews.
Nice to see Fuji back with a bang
.
Hopefully, they can be lured into m4/3. Otherwise, Olympus and Panasonic should imitate some of that Sony/Fuji software stitching modes in their future cameras – reduces post processing greatly and brings users to the brand that do not post process their images.

2 years ago |One small but smart solution. In LX3 lcd display is extruded, if you like to lay camera on her back, it scratches screen. In LX5 screen is protected from such situations. maybe jpeg output sucks, but first – these are preproduction cameras, second – i always shoot raw, so this drawback isn’t major issue. Also i dream about focus ring, which one day i hope will be true, but this new camera offers so much great improvements, that i see my LX3 being replaced by LX5 on first chance.
