(FT5) UPDATED-> First leaked image of the new Olympus MFT!

Finally 43rumors found the first leaked image on an asian forum. It has been removed after few minutes but a reader sent us the screenshot! :)

I post the official Olympus image for comparison. You can see the leaked image uses has the 14-42mm lens and the official Olympus image the 17mm lens

The camera is not going to be announced on February 2nd but later. It has a plastic body and it is priced cheaper than the Olympus E-P1!

UPDATE: From trusted source: autofocus is a little faster ;)
UPDATE2: Corrected-> same E-P1 sensor!
UPDATE3: Corrected -> It has one new feature (we will tell you soon)…if it is what I have in mind than it’s HOT!!!
UPDATE4: Name E-Pxx (two unknown numbers/letters)
UPDATE5: New Kit-Lens for the E-Pxx!
UPDATE6: That’s only speculation…but could it have the In-Body EVF we are all waiting for? (). I know I am dreaming only :)
UPDATE7: A close look to the pictures do suggest there will be a built-in pop-up flash. Maybe that’s the new feature our sources were talking about!
UPDATE8: It’s slightly thinner and slightly smaller.
UPDATE9: A size comparison between the E-P1 and the new leaked camera is available here: https://43rumors.com/ft3-e-p1-vs-e-pxx-size-comparison/

(FT4) Finally some rumor from reliable sources!

I am just arrived at the Munich airport and I checked my mails. Finally after days of struggling with uncertain rumors I have some very reliable rumor from my “old” trusted sources :). Just few informations but at least they are FT4 :)

The teaser camera is definitely a MicroFourThirds camera (plastique body)
Also the E-5 is going to be announced veeeeeery soon.
No Mft prime lenses from Olympus yet, they will come in Q3! We will see the previousely announced zooms instead.

That’s it for now. I received some more informations but I want to double check them before to post it!

Cheers from Munich
Ale

P.S.: Sorry for beeing so hurry but I am writing you from my iPhone.

(FT2) Panasonic GH2 to be first shutter-less camera

According to the website eosHDIn what is being billed as another sizeable revolution in the camera world, Panasonic is set to unveil a shutter-less DSLR. Billed as a ‘global shutter’ and marketed as HD Progressive, Panasonic will for now reserve this feature only for their high end range of camcorders and the GH2.

Panasonic is set to release the LX4 and G2 in February, but the GH2 will wait until the 2nd half of 2010 according to my source in Asia. Rather than do a yearly update of the GH line, Panasonic want to bring a greater incremental step to the ‘luxury’ line.“,,,”The global shutter also creates the possibility of an entirely silent camera. Goodbye shutter click. On a DSLR a global shutter requires greater power demands and causes the sensor to run hot, but Panasonic were able to develop one because their modern CMOS processing plant can shrink a chip below 35 nanometers, which coupled with the relatively small (in DSLR terms) sensor size of the Micro 4/3rds format allows the chip to run cooler.

a little bit of everything…

The author sent us this text:

Here is a commercial we shot for Doritos “Crash the Superbowl” contest.www.blownapartstudios.com
It was shot entirely with the GH1. The fractal design took longer to bild than we thought so we ended up having to shoot almost the whole thing in about 3 hours. Because of the time crunch and the inability to check the footage (and all the wide angles) we ended up shooting the whole thing in 720P. The footage was then conformed to 24p in Cineform. We were quite pleased with the result.

A few other details…

The whole thing was shot handheld, with the GH1 attached to a DVTEC MultiRig Pro.
Again, because of time constraints, only two lenses were used. The stock lens and the 20mm 1.7
The 20mm had a cheap .5 wide angle adapter attached to give it a true 20mmFOV. This worked incredibly well and I’ve become a believer in wide angle adapters. Almost no distortion and almost zero light loss.
We controlled exposure with a 77mm FaderND. This thing works incredible and I don’t want to ever shoot without one again.
The only lighting we had was one reflector which we used for bounce a few times. Shooting close to magic hour on a lot of it didn’t hurt
Sound was captured on a zoom H4n with a Rode NTG-2. Manual sync wasn’t a big issue. However, in the future we plan on either keeping the number of camera and audio takes in sync or manually writing down what take goes with what. We had a lot more camera takes than audio takes and it took a while to figure out what went with what.
All the editing and effects work was done in Premiere and After Effects CS4. The ability of these programs to dynamically link and share files was a Godsend. We only had one week for post.
Magic Bullet Looks was used for color correction and for the most part was very minor.
This was our first project and overall we were very happy. The GH1 is an incredible little camera. It’s incredibly flexible with it’s flip out screen and combined with the DVTEC makes an amazingly light, versatile rig.

The Olympus “teaser camera” rumors summary

It is time to take a break and to make a summary.

What we know for certain is that Olympus will take a press conference on February 2nd. That’s a fact. We also know that they will announce new compact cameras (probably a Tough camera, a Megazoom camera, the camera shown on the teaser and maybe something else). Do not expect a new FourThirds camera announcement. We have been told that there will be a second press conference quickly after the February 2 announcement (probably before the PMA) where Olympus will announce the E-3 successor.

We havn’t been able to get 100% reliable information. It seems that Olympus kept the new camera secret to everyone :)

We can only speculate this time!
To date the camera seems to be a Low-End MicroFourThirds model with interchangeable lens-mount (not fixed lens). It has a plastique body, probably a built-in flash, same E-P1 sensor, Art Filters, it cost something around $500-$550. And obviousely it is smaller than the E-P1/GF1.
But that’s just my speculation.

As soon as we receive 99% reliable “rumors” we will post it on 43rumors! Keep following us!

Cheers
Ale
