(FT3) Panasonic 35-100mm X lens for around $1,600?

Dpreview forum user Moonlight Knight (Click here) reports: “Based on an accidental leak by a staff of a certain company closely associated with Panasonic, the price of the upcoming Panasonic X 35-100mm f/2.8 should be more expensive than the X 12-35mm f/2.8 by no less than $200 (probably like $300).

The just announced 12-35mm X lens is priced at $1,300 at Amazon, BHphoto and Adorama. If Math doesn’t lie than the 35-100mm f/2.8 lens will cost around $1,600 :)

In Full Frame terms this lens will have a classic 70-200mm field of view with f/2.8 light gathering and a Depth of field of f/5.6. Bye the way, a nice depth of field calculator is available here at Cambridgeincolor.

That lens costs more than a Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 for example ($899 at Amazon) and less than the Canon 70-200mm ($2,990 at Amazon). But if the 35-100mm matches or even exceeds the 12-35mm lens quality I am fine with that price. But that’s me, you may have another opinion :)

(FT5) Olympus 75mm f/1.8 priced at around $800. In Store by end of June /early July!

A couple of weeks ago a new source told us that the new 75mm f/1.8 lens would arrive on June 18th and priced at $799. Trusted sources now confirmed that the lens will be priced at “around $800“. Of course this is subject change depending on tax and conversion rate (Some sources know the real price in other currency). And the lens will start to be in Store by end of June /early July (more or less the same time when the new Panasonic 12-35mm X lens will ship). There is no word about the other 60mm macro lens release or eventual new PEN cameras. But I have been told something else “could” come. Don’t know what it is now but I am working on it.

Oh, and two of my sources said the lens is simply astonishing! Just for comparison. The lens corresponds to 150mm f/1.8 lens in Full frame terms (f/3.6 in DOF terms) or to a 100mm f/1.8 in APS-C terms (f/2.7 in DOF terms). Lenses giving a similar field view and aperture (but different DOF) to the 75mm Olympus lens like the Nikon 105mm f/2.0 (150mm on APS-C) costs more than $1000 at Amazon (Click here). And so the Canon 135mm f/2.0 (135mm on FF). The only weird thing is that Olympus sees the lens as a portrait lens while in my opinion it is not. But anyway, if it delivers the highest quality of all m43 lenses I am sure it will become a hotseller! Don’t you think?

Speaking of hotseller: The Panasonic 12-35mm managed to get into the 20 most sold lenses at Amazon (here is the ranking). Please let me know if you find more stores accepting preorders and I will post it here on 43rumors. Thanks! Here is the (short) list:
in USA at Amazon (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here).
in Europe at FotoHanzKeuzekamp (Click here).
in Asia at Amazon Japan (Click here).

UPDATE: You can preorder the lens at Amazon (Click here)

Today we had a great new Panasonic 12-35mm X lens announcement but you really don’t think that we can have a rest now  :)

After Techradar also Photographyblog today got the same Olympus teaser. The text really makes it easy to guess that they are talking about the new $799(?) 75mm f/1.8 lens. Stay tuned on 43rumors!!!

P.S.: Still I haven’t found any place where you can preorder the new Panasonic lens. I keep checking these search links at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here).

(FT5) New Olympus teaser for the upcoming 75mm portrait lens!

Olympus is sending out a new teaser! After the weird nuts(LOL) for the new Tough camera (Click here)…..Techradar got the message you see here on top of this post! Obviously this is for the new 75mm f/1.8 portrait lens. The lens will be announced within the next weeks (and don’t forget that there is a Panasonic announcement too!).

The lens is said to have the highest image quality of all current Micro Four Thirds lenses. It is not weather sealed and if according to some unconfirmed rumors it should cost $799. That’s a lot less than comparable Full Frame lenses like the [shoplink 30743]Canon 135mm f/2.0 (Click here)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 30744]Nikon 135mm f/2.0 (Click here)[/shoplink]. Only the 85mm Canon f/1.8 (here at Amazon) and the Nikon 85mm f/1.8 (here at Amazon) are cheaper but also have an older design and are not as long as the Olympus (127.5mm on an APSC camera).

I know I already posted a similar poll months ago. But now we have some more info about the lens price and quality. So I ask you again:

If the 75mm f/1.8 lens really has the best image quality and costs $799 (or 699 Euro). Will you buy it?

One more thing. I don’t know yet if the 60mm f/2.8 macro will also be announced along the 75mm lens!

(FT4) 12-35mm coming in June. And the 35-100mm will arrive later (August/September).

Trusted sources told us that while the 12-35mm X lens from Panasonic will be announced within the next weeks the 35-100mm X lens will be released along the GH3 in late August/early September. I don’t know the reason why Panasonic is splitting up the lens release. Just my guess: looking at the past delivery problems of Panasonic they may choose to release only one lens first to avoid major delivery problems. The problem is particularly evident in USA where many lenses are still not availabel in decent quantity. The 20mm pancake (Click here) and the 25mm Leica (Click here) only got back in Stock in these days (and I guess they will again go out of Stock soon again).

(FT5) Panasonic and Olympus m43 announcements within the next weeks!

It’s getting more and more busy on the rumors front. I am receiving new info every day and as you know I try to double check rumor with trusted sources in order to give you some FT4 or FT5 ranked rumor (ranking description at the bottom of this post). All I can tell you for sure is that both Panasonic and Olympus will have major product announcements within the next weeks. Please keep in mind that the rumored announcement data of May 21th (Panasonic) and June 18th (Olympus) are coming from external or non trusted sources. I am checking right now if the data are correct or not.

What’s also sure (FT5) is:
1) There will be a new Panasonic G5 with same [shoplink 22077 ebay]G3[/shoplink] 16 Megapixel sensor.
2) The Olympus 75mm f/1.8 is currently being tested by many photographers and will ship this summer.
3) The 12-35mm f/2.8 Panasonic X lens will ship this summer.

Three professional work made with the Panasonic GH2!

As you know the [shoplink 16254]Panasonic GH2[/shoplink] is used by many professionists and artists for their work. Here are three new videos you can see:

1) Konstantin Syomin (Click here) won the international Documentary Challenge in Toronto with a movie shot with the GH2!

2) Living the dream teaser at DVXuser (Click here).

3) And here is the long text sent me by Luke:
I wanted to let you know about a film that I made on the GH2 that is currently touring festivals and also available online during a limited internet-only pre-release via a partnership with the website Prescreen.
The film follows the Thai National Cheerleading team from their humble beginnings practicing on concrete up until the 2009 and 2011 World Championships in Florida where they brought home medals and caused over 10,000 spectators to jump up and down screaming “BANGKOK! THAILAND! BANGKOK! THAILAND!” …. it’s more than just a movie about cheerleaders though, it’s a movie about following your dreams and how even if the odds are totally stacked against you, that you can achieve your goals.
Here’s our website for the film
http://www.TheCheerAmbassadors.com
And our Facebook page
http://www.facebook.com/TheCheerAmbassadors
The important link though is this one, where the film can actually be rented (until June 24th)
https://prescreen.com/movie/The-Cheer-Ambassadors
We’ve screened in Thailand, Singapore, USA and Norway. And we recently won Best Documentary at the 60N Os Festival in Norway. In Norway, the film was blown up on a 4K screen and still looked amazing, later this year we will have broad theatrical distribution in Thailand. The GH2 was totally the right camera to make this film on.
Thanks again for all your hard work on the blog, if there is any way that you could give our film a mention that would be great! I am attaching a press release announcing the release on Prescreen and also our press kit. If you want some press stills, you can grab them from this link

Great work guys!
