New image samples with the upcoming 17mm f/1.8 lens…

The polish community Olympusclub (translation here) posted new RAW and JPG image samples taken with the soon to come 17mm f/1.8 lens. Here are the direct download links of the RAW files:

The lens press release with official price and specs will be released tomorrow (Tuesday November 15 at 5-6 am London time). Olympus Japan already added the lens in their database.

By the way we already have two 17mm primes that you may consider to buy instead of the 17mm f/1.8:
1) If you don’t care a lot about high image quality but more about tiny size than you may go for the Olympus 17mmf /2.8 at [shopcountry 14798].
2) If a big lens and no electronic AF and aperture doesn’t bother you than consider the superb and super fast [shoplink 30452 eBay]Nokton 17.5mm f/0.95 lens (here on eBay)[/shoplink]. To easily find the best price on eBay you can also sue our little Slidoo tool (login to change country). Right now for example you can find a good deal at [shoplink 34880 eBay]Fotomundus (Click here)[/shoplink].

GH3 review at Digitalcamerainfo. GH3 and E-PL5 comparison and almost identical IQ.

Digitalcamerainfo posted their full GH3 review: “The Panasonic GH3 is the Micro Four Thirds system all grown up, and it’s hard to argue that it’s not the best mirrorless system camera to date. While we’ve seen impressive performance from other bodies like the Sony NEX-7, and incredible styling and control in the Olympus OM-D E-M5, the Panasonic GH3 brings all of that together with some exceptional video quality to boot.

The full conlcusion page can be read here and you can read good things about the GH3. But who made the Gh3 sensor? The Dutch website Digitfotopro (translation here) posted a short GH3 vs E-PL5 ISO comparison. They converted the RAW files via Lightroom 4.3 RC and the result is that they are pretty much delivering the same image quality suggesting that both camera may use the same Sony sensor. And before someone starts to say that the E-M5 isn’t using a Sony sensor just read what Hiroyuki Sasa CEO of Olympus said about it at DC.watch :)

New Panasonic GH3 reviews (and RAW suppport via Adobe).

Paris, Salon de la Photo 2012 : Test GH3 + Lumix G X 12 35 mm f/2.8 from Fabrys on Vimeo.

Whatdigitalcamera posted the full GH3 review: “So getting back to our initial question of whether the GH3 is ready to take on DSLR competition, our answer to this is yes. Both photography and video is a pleasing experience with the GH3 and with a 92% overall score it comes away with a WDC Gold Award.

Amateur Photographer posted a short GH3 hands-on article. The german website Chip.de also tested the GH3 and they found the image quality superior to the E-M5.

Adobe now supports the new GH3 and PEN raw files. Check out: Adobe Camera Raw 7.3 RC and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4.3 RC.

New images of the 17mm 1.8 lens (and RAW files!)

The french website OpenPN posted some new images of the 17mm f/1.8 lens that has been displayed in Paris. The image on top shows the lens on the [shoplink 29074]Olympus E-M5[/shoplink]. Olympus, we really need a Black version of the lens…but not limited and expensive like the [shoplink 34807 ebay]12mm edition[/shoplink]!

M43.eu just updated his post and included the original RAW files samples of the lens. He also wrote a short impression about the image quality of the lens: “To be honest, I’m not brought to my knees. Many of the images in the center of the frame look very decent, but also I cannot express my great enthusiasm when comparing these to the images taken with the Olympus 75 mm or 12 mm. The edges of the frame the sharpness drops significantly.

HOT! Very first full size image samples taken with the new Olympus 17mm f/1.8 lens!!!

M43.eu (translation here) just posted the very first worldwide full size image samples taken with the soon to be released Olympus 17mm f/1.8 lens! Once you click on the linked website you can see all the pics (there are two pages of them). CLick on the thumbnail to open the full size images. Let us know what you think about the image quality. In my eyes this looks definitely much better than what I can get with my little old 17mm f/2.8 lens :)

A special thanks goes to the M43 admin for finally sharing us such a precious info!

New E-M5 review (and E-M5 keychains)

[shoplink 34784 ebay]

[/shoplink] We now almost know everything about the E_M5 but in case you need to read a new review that just click over at Neocamera (Click here). They write: “In the end, the Olympus OM-D E-M5 substantially narrows the gap between mirrorless and DSLR cameras while keep a compact size and rich feature set. Combined with a high-quality Zuiko lens, this digital camera is capable of producing superb images.

And I guess at that point you already will have noticed that somewhat weird E-M5 image I posted on top. it isn’t the real camera but the E-M5 keychain you can find on [shoplink 34784 ebay]eBay (Click here to see them)[/shoplink].
