Ditching My Sony – The New Perfect Camera?

You hear many stories from people “upgrading” to Full Frame cameras. But Photorec tells us the opposite story in this video. He id ready to ditch the Sony A7rII in favor of the new Olympus E-M1II.

Dpreview posted the full YI M1 review and I have to say it’s years that I don’t see a camera NOT getting at leats a Silver award. The conclusion is:

The M1 is built around a 20MP Micro Four Thirds sensor that produces excellent Raw files offering good latitude. JPEGs are subtle in color, but full of detail in good light. Low light JPEGs suffer due to unsophisticated noise reduction. Autofocus routinely fails even on still subjects, while continuous AF is unusable; these problems are only made worse in low-light. The M1 produces some nice Full HD video and the 4K/30p video is capable, but can be very lens dependent and shaky due to the lack of stabilization, with unusable autofocus.

Well at least YI dropped the price of the camera kit by $150 at Amazon US. That maybe helps to make some sales after all.

Dpreview compared all new Compact Enthusiast Zoom Cameras and concluded that the new Panasonic LX10/15 is the best on the market:

While there are good reasons to pick any of them, it’s the Panasonic that wins the day for us. Its touchscreen interface means it works well, no matter how much control you want to take and its autofocus is the best we’ve seen, this side of the more expensive RX100 V.

Dpreview published the full E-M1II test. The camera earned the Gold Award with the following conclusion:

The OM-D E-M1 Mark II is Olympus’ most ambitious camera yet and it blows away its peers in terms of raw speed – and it’s no slouch when it comes to photo and video quality, AF performance and build quality. The Mark II is customizable to the point where it’s overwhelming, so it’s not for everyone. It’s may also be a budget-stretcher for a lot of people. Aside from those and a few other quirks, the E-M1 II is an interchangeable lens camera to be reckoned with.

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 25mm f/1.2 PRO lens got tested by Photoreview:

Subjective assessments of test shots showed them to be very sharp, even at the maximum f/1.2 aperture. The fast MSC autofocusing system and effective stabilisation in the E-MI enabled us to use the lens hand-held at very slow shutter speeds – as low as 1/3 second – and obtain a high percentage of sharp pictures.
Our Imatest tests showed the lens able to exceed expectations for the 16-megapixel resolution sensor in the E-MI with measurements taken near the centre of the frame. The highest resolution was obtained at f/2.5, which is 1.3 f-stops down from maximum aperture.
Some edge softening was measured at all aperture settings and depth-of-field was very shallow at wider apertures. Diffraction began to limit sharpness at f/11, as shown in the graph of our Imatest result below.

Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 30mm F3.5 Macro Review at Photographyblog:

For a small, lightweight and affordable macro lens that also does double duty as a (granted, slightly overlong and not particularly bright) standard prime, the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 30mm f/3.5 ED Macro is clearly an excellent performer.
